Oh?

I used to live in "LA" (Los Feliz) by the fountain! A very nice place on the 14th floor... It was very nice, and often I rode my bicycle to work and home daily. the hotel will look extremely tall once completed.

I still miss it a bit (LA ... but not the traffic.

Great detail pics. The crane support is something else. I'm thinking this was to allow basement/podium works to continue below....and that guy getting some shut eye is pretty hilarious.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but why is there no 27th floor?

Technically if they are on the "20th" floor they'd really be on the 13th floor. But it's only floors it's the final height that matters at least they don't consider it a 900 ft tower instead of 1100 or something like that. Hopefully whatever superstitions they belive in will bring positive things who can argue with that lol.

Floor measurements made sense in the 20th century when most buildings had 8-10 ft / 3m floors. Nowadays there are many offices and residential buildings with 12-15' / 4/5m floors, and sizing a building by 'floor count' is old school and really inaccurate in modern buildings. Floor height is treated differently in different periods in every country and between regions and cities.

Saw this on Wikipedia for the tower...and I know its not the most reliable site, and they arent citing and sources for this, but has anyone else seen these details about the breakdown of what floors will be occupied by what in the tower...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilshire_Grand_Tower

7] The plans currently include 67,000 square feet (6,225 m2) of retail, 677,000 square feet (62,895 m2) of Class A office space, 256 condominiums, and 120 hotel rooms. The tower would also include a Sky Lounge on the 74th floor and the observation deck on the 75th-77th floor.[citation needed]

Floors B2 to B1: Parking
Floors 1: Lobby/Street Retail
Floors 2 to 6: Shopping Malls
Floors 7 to 26: Office
Floors 27: Swimming Pool
Floors 28 to 41: Residential Units
Floors 42 to 61: Condominiums
Floors 62 to 73: Hotel[citation needed]

I have never heard anything about condos or residential units. Im truly just curious if this has been mentioned anywhere.

^^^ That info feels wrong or a bit off.....But I've heard that condo/residential talk before, someone posted it on SSC. Never heard of a mall.... some retail yes but not enough retail to consider it a mall... Ive only heard confirmation of office in the bottom half and hotel in the top half.

Yeah... 5 floors of mall in addition to 7th + Fig and the Bloc and LA Central would be tough to support.

I don't think there are any residential units in this building. Let's be honest it's wikipedia, unless we hear otherwise from a more reliable source i would not take it to seriously.

I was going to ask if anyone knew what was planned for the three taller floors above the tall lobby/mezzanine, after which the floors get shorter (probably where the office space begins).

I believe those are part of the convention/ballroom base of the tower, or they may even be mechanical floors?

So I have the Downtown LA 2014 Year end Report done by the downtown BID. It lists all new residential, hotel, retail and office developement. The Wilshire grand has 900 new hotel rooms, no new residential units, and has 350,000 of office space coming online. It is not listed in the future retail which I find interesting because I thought I heard multiple times that it would have a retail component.

http://www.wilshiregrandcenter.com/leasing-info

From the website:

45,100 square feet of new restaurant and retail space housing world-class restaurants will make this an epicurean delight and drive downtown’s food and cultural renaissance
Innovative outdoor spaces and exterior plazas will invite guests and visitors to experience the true Los Angeles lifestyle and climate

45,000 square feet is 1/4th what is going into Fig Central and is comparable to the 42,000 going into the Whole Foods 8th/grand complex.
