Not sure what the event is but six municipalities across the province are raising the trans flag next week.

Jack Saddleback, a Cree two-spirited transgendered man, was elected President of the University of Saskatchewan Students Union (USSU) last night. A first in the university's history on many fronts.

I've heard Jack speak before, and given the journey he has made from his rural first nation to becoming a champion for gender and sexual diversity and a generally well-rounded young man, he is an absolute inspiration. He is also one of the warmest and most genuine people you will ever meet. He's destined for big things.

Congratulations, Jack.

This is so sweet. Students at a few high schools in St. John's started a Post-it Project.

They leave positive messages on a post-it note on students' lockers. It's meant to combat bullying and anxiety and make all students feel accepted and safe. So far they've left 4,000 for students at Bishop's, Booth Memorial, Gonzaga, Holy Heart, Holy Spirit, St. Bonaventure's, St. Kevin's, and Mount Pearl Senior High.

The idea came from Grace King of Holy Heart.

Red.

Velvet (local gay bar) has an interesting guest coming up...

If you don't recognize her, you probably do remember her most recent tour through the headlines:

She posted pictures of what she looked like after. Insane.

I've never been to the rodeo, I think I may check it out this year.

You definitely should. It's expensive, but totally worth it. Make sure to camp too, staying in a hotel for it is lame.

Ireland has joined Scotland in the great marriage equality video drive.

I'm so excited for this. I'd love to get married in Waterford.

Technically, even if it wasn't legal there, you could always have a wedding ceremony in Waterford and then just get the paperwork done back home in St. John's.

That's true - but it's just not the same.

Mrs. Brown has gotten on board. Pity the movie wasn't as good as hoped.

Sorry that I'm kind of breaking into the conversation here but I just wanted to say how LGBTQ friendly Northern Ontario tends to be. I live in Timmins which is very left-leaning as well like most of the region. There has recently been a pride parade in Timmins and nobody at all spoke out against it and I never heard anything negative at all. People in rural areas tend to be just as tolerant and friendly. Neighbouring parts of Quebec are just the same including both urban and rural areas.

In Timmins, there is a guy who owns a transmission repair business. His specialty licence plate on his truck reads TRANNYMN. The poor guy is older and francophone and I guess was never told there is another definition for "tranny." Some people chuckle and post pics of the plate on Facebook but nobody every says anything negative about transvestites and we do have some in our city.

I'm a gay man born in 1993 who came out in 2011, and has lived in urban settings continuously since coming out. I've literally never once faced homophobic discrimination.. or if I did, it was concealed enough that I couldn't notice.

I remember hearing anti-gay comments back in the 1980s and 1990s but not recently.

Why do some people act as though being homosexual is something new? I never understood that. Some people badly need history lessons.

Ironically, the only time I've been on the receiving end of homophobic slurs is before I ever came out.

The vast majority of the anti-gay experience I've had was not from other people, but inside my own head.

Was born in 1990 and grew up in Woodstock Ontario. Coming out at 14 (grade 10), I faced daily threats and discrimination. Also experienced it on and off when living in Toronto, but that was just due to what I was wearing those nights (super tight pants, tight shirt) . Since I've lived out west though, BC and AB, never heard it once. Had to defend a drag queen on the C-train once though from a bunch of drunk university fratboy wannabe douchebags.
