I think we can all agree that Martinmtl is the best damn curator of Montreal pics this site has ever seen. Good set.

You can put a small amount of photos in whichever thread you'd like to, the other thread seems to be more of a protest against when people dump over 40 high res photos in this thread, which is kinda ridiculous in my opinion cause at that point you might as well just make a photo thread in the "my city photos" forum instead.

A very shocking and sad day for Kitchener as the Mayfair Hotel has been deemed structurally unsafe following a pipe burst that broke a foundation wall in the basement. The building has been ordered to be demolished and it could be knocked down within days. I don't believe the building was heritage registered but rather listed as "A non-designated property of cultural heritage value or interest."

"The structure is unique. The original building — an example of Renaissance revival style — dates back to1905. In 1929, the owner added another three floors in art deco style."

Not only is it a loss of a heritage building but one that had ambitious plans for redevelopment as part of the City Centre Development.

Things were scaled back slightly: http://www.coupalmarkou.com/features...YoungSt_11.pdf

Also worth noting is the 2006 demolition of the Forsyth Clothing Factory which was located adjacent to the hotel.

Both buildings had great potential for re-purposing especially being so centrally located.

Aww that's awful. You should post it in the Canadian Demolitions thread as well. It'd be nice to have a record of it there.

That is unfortunate about that Kitchener hotel building - it had so much potential. Hopefully the redevelopment plans shift to something great.

I love the atmosphere and composition of these two Montreal pics... fantastic:

We had 30 minutes of sun this morning. That was nice.

Drove out through Flatrock and Pouch Cove to see how the snow cover was doing. Mostly gone, except in the woods.

Went to Mount Carmel Cemetery, one of the oldest Catholic burial grounds in the city, for a few shots of the backside of downtown on my way back into the city.

This is what the area behind the Basilica looks like. Most of it is part of Georgestown but to the right it becomes part of Churchill Park. There's a bit on the horizon that's probably in my neighbourhood, Rabbittown.

A bit of Bannerman below and Georgestown on top. That steeple up top, though, is on the St. Francis of Assisi... it's either still a monastery or it's condos, I don't know. Technically, that's in Rabbittown.

Government House, now home to our Lieutenant General. Most people here incorrectly believe this is where our Prime Ministers lived. They didn't. This was always home to the Governor/Lieutenant Governor.

Went for a few drinks at a friend's place yesterday.

Hilarious social class contrast between my neighbourhood...

Here's the view from the penthouse of the Central tower in South East False Creek. This 3 bedroom suite has 1500 sqf of living space and an amazing 1000 sqf private rooftop patio with a breathtaking view of the area.

BC Place across False Creek.

Telus World of Science is next door.

The private rooftop patio is ridiculously huge. 1000 sqf!

Like, what do you do with all this ridiculous space?

View towards Metrotown.

Olympic Village with blown out sky.

Pacific Central station is the western terminus of railway across Canada.

Old towers along Quebec Street.

Southeast False Creek panorama. What a view!
