So am I... there are millions of people with cancer, and more millions with afflictions of all kinds, that I don't know and really don't care about. I don't wish anyone needless pain and suffering, but it's life, and I can't concern myself with the fate of 99.9% of humanity. Rob Ford is not a good man as far as I'm concerned, and I am glad he will no longer be mayor of Toronto. His ultimate fate is not something I am worried about.

This has nothing to do with the Rob Ford drama, but I was watching Holmes on Homes today and had a realization. Mike Holmes is like the long lost Ford brother. Except athletic and relatively handsome.

New poll done yesterday and released today surveyed 2400 people in Toronto, has Doug Ford at 23%, Olivia Chow at 25%, and John Tory at 40%. It's worth noting though that Ford was up 7% since the last survey, Chow was down 2%, and Tory dropped 5%. Should be interesting to see what the next poll says.

You have to know your audience. He's a world class asshole, and in Toronto that's what matters.

it has a lot to do with class resentment as well. toronto is not unique in having a large cohort of people who see the current crop of responsible, respected, well-to-do types, with their taboos and aspirations and well-placed concerns, and fucking hate them.

I don't doubt it. But how is it that in Toronto of all places, they are a potent enough political force to get their man elected mayor? In most other Canadian cities, someone like the Ford brothers would be 5th place finisher material, at best.

I find it odd that "elite" in Canada usually seems to have a negative connotation when applied to people. For the life of me, I don't understand how it can be anything other than something to admire and aspire to.
