Is this natural light coming in from above? This underground portion won't be getting light from the large wings, and so I was wondering if there was actually going to be some kind of opening, or skylight letting light in from above.

Yes, and you can see how the above ground structure relates to the station.

There will be light, but it won't be as originally planned (below)

The first design for the underground mezzanine of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub showed daylight flooding the space
through glass paving blocks above the ribbed vaults.

Comparison to now:

The second design removes the structure’s skylights.

The concourse will extend all the way past the Freedom Tower (with shops at the base of the tower) to West Street.

South pool black spots

In the south pool towards the northeast corner during a recent pour, two small areas were left unpoured. Now they are covered with black and are fenced off. What is going on here?

It could be so they can lower some artifacts down there just like they did with the Last Column.

I don't know what artifacts they'd be lowering onto the PATH tracks, but it could be to lower some steel into the area. That's another thought.

How are the reflecting pools intended to blue (as shown in the renders) when they're using pitch black granite?

^^ maybe they choose blue color for the waterfalls, because everyone associates blue as the color of water. Remember renders often does'nt look 100% like the final product. We'll see.

I hope they end up a bit brighter/more colorful in the end, at least in the daytime. Something about two massive black pits where the twin towers once stood doesn't sit well with me...

I think it's incredibly profound. In fact, I hate the above-ground part of the museum. Is that a Libeskind? I'm seriously getting tired of his slice-and-dice architectural schlock.

If it were up to me, I'd set the whole damn thing underground and leave the surface as a plaza - although not necessarily a flat one.

Pretty much the whole thing will be underground, the visitors center wasn't designed by Libeskind, but it has his mark. I'm ok with it. The above ground portion of the memorial is supposed to reflect on the absence of the Twin Towers, the voids that will never be filled.

Yea it gives me the creeps too. Blue would look so much better.

Also, I'm fine with a lot of it being underground but I wish they would have done more building designs above ground too. I don't like the current bland look it has.

Will the corners of the pools be chamferd then or will they remain 90 degrees square cause if they are chamferd then they will look more like the corners of the original towers.

The actual falls will be squared, but the barrier with all the names will be chamfered.
