BTW I still hate the name "Budweiser Gardens". Has this name change generated any real income?

Sold our soul

They paid $5 million for the first 10 years of naming rights and $6.4 million for the next 10 years. The second naming rights deal was supposed to end in 2022 but I'm not finding anything about it being renewed after that.

It was a corporately paid for name just like the original name. We could have elected to not take Labatt's money if we wanted to and council could have elected to keep the JLC name if they wanted (or named it anything else too). So in that sense, yes, it did generate income. I don't know how an arena that's barely 20 years old is our "soul", it's not like the Montreal Forum becoming the Reno Depot Centre or something lol.

Labatt is a London brewing company, from a London brewing family (as for Montreal, they also sold their soul, going from the Molson Centre to the Bell Centre...at least Bell is technically hq'd in Montreal).

Budweiser is nothing but American steer piss. I hate how Budweiser, Coors Light, etc. are listed as "domestic". They are not domestic beers, even if brewed here, any more than Sapporo is (brewed in Guelph).

I am just sad to see giant American brands taking over what little exists of Canadian champions.

I heard that too. And they will have his face on it (with that hat, naturellement).

Part of the renovation plan is to have the roof of the building resemble his backwards hat.

Puts things in context for the Bud renovation.

London's arena is about 20 years old, has some bells and whistles, and has probably had some decent upkeep over the years. Hamilton's arena is just about 40 years old, is pretty no-frills, and has barely been maintained at all.

But London's arena is also far smaller and the reason we get missed for a lot of things like major concerts and events.
