Building looks really nice. The guy in the red tie looks like he just farted.

Everything we have now points to 900. (the FAA's measuring instruments are off by 1 foot
Either way it's at least 100 feet taller than the current tallest and looks great so this is definitely exciting

Mayor Steve Fulop said China Overseas' investment, especially for a condominium project, is a "significant" sign of optimism about Jersey City and yet more proof that this is a "global city."

Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne said 99 Hudson will help create a skyline to rival the one across the Hudson River. It will show Manhattanites that "our skyline's pretty cool, too," Osborne said.

The Jersey City skyline is already pretty cool, but let's not get crazy. Manhattan it aint. (Same goes for LIC which is also seeing a dramatically changed skyline).

As far as this building goes, and being iconic, it's still not really a signature skyscraper. That has to do with the design. I think it's a little fat. If only it could taper more (something like the Shard) it would go a long way towards being a unique design, something that could be a symbol of JC. As it is now, it seems the JC skyline will continue to look more like a collection of buildings spilled over from Manhattan, particularly from any view where you can see both skylines together (NJ). But from the Manhattan side, its nice to see. And this tower will have some of the best views because it's not sandwiched in by a lot of other towers. It will do just fine at that height.

Here's a shot from earlier today. You can see the trough they used for the ceremonial groundbreaking, and finally, some equipment on site:

Mods need to change the thread title. This tower is 900 ft., not 889 ft.

and when is it protocol to move a project from proposed to the construction forum? Do they need to clearly start excavation or is it later on when they pour the foundation?

Hopefully it's the former and they put that CAT excavator to work on Monday.

New Jersey's Next Tallest Building Has Broken Ground

Quote:
Officials from developer China Overseas America and architect Perkins Eastman were on hand to celebrate the start of construction with a ceremonial ground breaking. Soaring 274 metres (900 feet) above sea level, 99 Hudson Street will climb above the 238-metre or 780-foot Goldman Sachs tower at 30 Hudson Street, which is currently the state's tallest building. To boast the "best view in the world," its 781 units will replace a parking lot that occupies the entire city block.

A minor but important update: this one is now 79 floors. The height remains the same at 900ft. The number of condo units has increased from 743 to 781. The 79 number has also been quoted in some news articles recently. Please update thread title. Also on the topic, does anyone have pics of the site recently showing excavation?

That is a good question. What is the exact height of this tower, where are the documents?

Is the height of the tower 900 ft exactly or is that the height above sea level? Either way, it's a massive building.

According to the FAA documents, the site is 12 ft above sea level and the structure is 899 ft tall, for a total of 911ft. The SSP community has decreed the FAA's measurements are off by 1 ft and the tower is in fact exactly 900ft tall.

Additionally, 900ft has been well cited by both city and newspaper sources.

If the height is changed, the FAA is required to be notified and we'll know about it.

Site prep has officially begun! The fences went up this morning! We'll likely start seeing it rise above street level by this summer.

When does this one move to the under construction forum?

Also, the thread title should be updated to reflect 79 floors, 900ft. I'm still not sure why it was reduced in the first place. This tower has never been 889ft to my knowledge.
