I just realized there's writing on back of the 'Two Ladies on a Rock' photograph/postcard.

-maybe oldstuff can work her magic and find out who these two ladies were.

'Aunt Neatt(?) and Miss Felt in Calif."

Sorry ER, I have run this about every way I can think of but there is no way to match them ( unlike the two sisters at their First Communion) I have run it as "Aunt Matt" which it could be and found about a dozen women who were called that on family history sites, but narrowing it down is impossible since we cannot tell which of them may have visited California in 1890. I don't find any for "Aunt Neatt" and we don't know if Neatt was her first or last name.

It's scary to think that these pictures from 1977 are now nearly 40 years old. Where did the time go? This is Julius Shulman's "Job 5469: The Market Place (Long Beach, Calif.), 1977".

Unlikely that it's flipped. Women's clothes traditionally button right over left, men's left over right. Mirroring the photo would make the both ladies' jackets left over right, which would be a *serious* social blunder.

EDIT: oops. John Maddox Roberts already pointed this out. So much for my attention to detail.

Can't imagine how absolutely miserable it would've been to dress like that when it's hot - even more so climbing up a rocky hill in blazing sun!

I think that this 1948 aerial view shows the bungalow court nearly opposite the extant one on the north side of the street. It had gone by the early-70s, becoming an extension of the sports field.

Sadly, there does not appear to be an audio track. Where is William Conrad's voice when we need him?

(At approximately 12:08, police trainees pass by two women. Were they pure scenery or part of the training? )

I moved to Southern California in the summer of 1977 and spent that first year living in Sunset Beach and Belmont Shore.

I saw quite a few movies at the UA 6 at the Marketplace -- stuff like CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR.

None of the restaurants, shops and stores listed in the current directory ring any bells.

We're back in Beverly Hills for today's Julius Shulman post. This is "Job 4512: Wallace Moir Company Building (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 1969".



I wonder how much light this unusual design let through.



The sign just inside the entrance shows the Wallace Moir Company, Wallace Moir Insurance Agency Inc, Wallace Moir Real Estate Company and the Pacific Sun Building Company.



The unusual design continues inside. The staggered front windows can be seen on the left.



The last image shows one of the offices.

The Wallace Moir Company Building was at 130 S El Camino Drive. The 2009 GSV images looks like this - I think it's probably the same structure (the stonework along the roof seems to match).
