a good angle of the Trappers Island proposal that shows proximity to downtown.

couple of new developments:
  • The Boise Airport, which has seen a 49% increase in passengers since 2012, is about to undergo a $150 million expansion. The expansion will add a new concourse, increase gates from 24 to 30+, add 3 new parking garages (one public, one employee, one for car rentals), and include a number of other upgrades. According to the Idaho Press, this will be built out in phases over the next 5 years.
  • TVUrban has posted about another downtown residential proposal, this one a 7-story structure with parking and retail space on the ground level. no renderings yet, but the site (on the east side of downtown) is indicated by the blue squares in the image below (image from TVUrban):

good recap from Boisedev about nearly 1,000 housing units planned for the east side of downtown Boise:

Quote:
In the past two years, developers applied for six different residential properties in a ten block area in Downtown. Four of those projects stepped into the light just since the begining of the year.

The boom in applications could foreshadow a flurry of building activity that could remake a prominent portion of Downtown Boise as it borders Julia Davis Park and the Boise River.

not directly project related, but there have been a lot of recent articles about the Boise metro's recent growth, which will inevitably result in new developments.

here's an article about the Treasure Valley's current growth as the valley rapidly reaches the 1 million mark. the video near the bottom also projects to full build-out with a population 2.7 million (I've even seen aggressive projects of the valley topping 3 million by the latter part of this century).

my favorite part:

Quote:
In the late 1980s, the community-funded Ada Planning Association was projecting that, 20 years from then - in 2010 - Ada County's population would be 290,000. They missed the mark by over 100,000. The 2010 census had the county's population at 392,000. (Ada County's current population is estimated at 487,670)
oops.

full article:

https://www.ktvb.com/article/news/lo...9-9c78de759bb6

Also, another article shares detail on Nampa (a suburb of Boise) becoming the third Idaho city to top 100,000:

Quote:
Nampa, with a population of 102,030, has become the third Idaho city to reach 100,000 people, according to COMPASS estimates. Nampa has doubled in size in nearly 20 years, from 51,000 in the 2000 Census. In the last four years, the city has added 13,000 people.
finally, in an Idaho Press article, Boise's largest suburb, Meridian, is now projected to reach 150,000 by 2029--it was originally estimated the city wouldn't reach the mark until 2040. Meridian's population in 1990 was 9,596.

Quote:
Last May, the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho, or Compass, estimated Meridian, the second-largest city in Idaho, had grown to more than 100,000 residents. Almost a year later, city staff estimate Meridian has reached 114,102 residents.

“There is no normal right now for the city of Meridian,” Meridian Chief Financial Officer Todd Lavoie said in an email. “We are experiencing phenomenal growth.”

The growth is exceeding city staff’s own projections. In June, staff estimated the city would reach 150,000 residents by 2040, according to a recent presentation to City Council.

City officials estimate Meridian will reach almost 150,000 residents by 2029, Lavoie said.

and in the "because why not" category, from KTVB:

Quote:
JUMP's 5-story spiral slide will open to the public Thursday evening
"It’s quite an exhilarating ride."

That’s how the KTVB morning team described spinning down the 5-story spiral slide at Jack’s Urban Meeting Place, or JUMP, in downtown Boise.

The slide will open to the public (for free) this Thursday, May 2, as part of the First Thursday.

looks like this project is eking closer to reality. from the Idaho Statesman:

Quote:
The Boise Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday, May 6, recommended approval of a zone change requested by Collegiate Development Group for a 1.8-acre parcel at 270 E. Myrtle St. The St. Louis, Missouri, company is seeking the change to build a seven-story building with either apartments or condominiums. The application will now go before the Boise City Council at a meeting not yet scheduled.

no renderings as of yet, however.

Boisedev.com has renderings of the proposed residential project next to Whole Foods on the eastern edge of downtown. these are intended to be student housing to support Boise State University, which is just south of this project across the river:

additional rendering and story are in the article.

Hi -

Just signed up to say thanks to you and Sawtooth for your contributions to this thread. Much appreciated as I've been tracking these projects for a move to beautiful Boise in the near future. We'll be making our 4th visit in November and our first BSU football game! I will try to contribute with some pics of construction when I go.

Keep up the great work!
James
