Good Van shots courtesy of Trish Jewison. I like the PoMo one, I wish they'd take one encompassing that, plus Westwood Plateau plus Burke Mountain. The houses crawling up the mountain and then all of a sudden wilderness looks good

I can't help but think about how that mountain side used to be forest (like the top) forever until the last fifty years or whenever those houses were developed. Seems kind of like a shame that beautiful environment was taken over by SFHs and not something more efficient or beautiful to reflect its environment.

That sprawl is some of the worst-looking in the metro area. Coquitlam has some really bad mountain sprawl as well.

North and West Vancouver pull it off better as people seem to plant more large trees in their yards.

Between the mountains and the towers and the impressive infill, Western Canada manages to occasionally pack some of the most brutal residential vernacular ever conceived.

A few from a run last night, day five of heavy fog in St. John's. People are starting to lose it. I still love it. Oddly for one of my posts, in chronological order

Video Link

The Roman Catholic Basilica of St. John the Baptist - inspired the one in NYC. Their bishop came to the consecration of this one in, I think the 1850s, and was embarrassed that "a bunch of fishermen" raised a greater church than NYC lol

Stairs down to Queen's Road.

Queen's Road looking down toward the intersection with Gower Street and Garrison Hill.

Victoria Street at Bond Street.

Gower Street at Victoria Street.

Prescott Street looking down to Duckworth Street.

Prescott Street looking up toward Rawlin's Cross. Craziest intersection in the city (and with the most accidents).

South Beach and Haymarket Square.

Nunnery Hill at Holloway Street.

Holloway Street.

Duckworth Street at Soloman's Lane. Odd thing about this one... that building on the left used to at least a floor higher. Pic beneath the one below is of American servicemen in the City celebrating VE Day. I wish we still drove on the left. I love all the little differences - 30 minute time zone, four flags, etc. This would've been a VERY visible another one.

Duckworth Street looking down to Water Street.

Duckworth Street looking down to George Street.

George Street, Water Street, and Harbour Drive.

Water Street at Murray Premises.

Bridie Molloy's Lane.

Celtic Hearth and Water Street.

Water Street East.

Climbing back home... McMurdo's Lane.

Only just now realizing I've never heard a name for this one? Always called it Bar None Lane but I don't think that bar even exists anymore lol

Cathedral Street.

Queen's Road at Cathedral Street.

And out of downtown, the last few steps of Garrison Hill. My neighbourhood, Rabbittown, to the left; Georgestown to the right.

Nice set SHH. I'd say some London Fog ice cream would go good with that.

Great moody St. John's set. Reminds me of Charlestown in Boston.

Fantastic set, mcminsen. This latest construction boom is producing some really nice architecture around the city.

It's still preferable to the soul less, mind numbing glass condo at the other end of the street. 16 of those shabby low rises or 16 of those sterile towers? I'd probably take the former.
