It's one of multiple skylines in the metro. Development in Uptown started somewhere around 1970 and construction has been particularly notable in the last decade, although there was quite a lot in previous decades. It's a mix of business and residential towers, located on both sides of I-610 about 6 miles west of downtown. As the metro has expanded, Uptown is now considered geographically as the threshold to the inner city.

It's what we old timers call Galleria/Post Oak. "Uptown" is a silly name for it, considering it's not UP in any sense of the word. As AviationGuy said, it's 6 miles west of Downtown. https://www.uptown-houston.com


This is a 13-year-old photo of Uptown. If you've been to Houston, you've most likely seen the Transco (now Williams) Tower. Downtown can be seen in the distance at the far right.
