BALTIMORE | Penn Station Project

Baltimore's Penn Station, the 8th busiest passenger rail station in the United States, is slated to be renovated and expanded starting in the spring of 2021. Neighboring Amtrak-owned surface level parking lots will be redeveloped under the proposal.

Looks awesome, I'm always pulling for Baltimore. Gensler is building a tower in Philly right now that has a lot of similarities to the taller one.

When I saw the thread title and then part of the rendering, for a moment I had palpitations over the possibility they were tearing down the beaux arts station itself. But no (Thank G*d). As an addition, on the other side of the actual tracks, it's pretty nice.

Having grown up in DC and suburbs and lived in Baltimore for 4 years, I can't resist comparing Penn Station to DC's Union Station. Both are beautiful IMHO but Union Station has always had the benefit of being practically across the street from the seat of the federal government and heavily used by the people whose hands are in the money spigots. Its nice to see Penn Station getting some love.

I'm not seeing much improvement to the station itself, just development of the surrounding land. They even still included those nasty 80's staircases from the terminal to the platforms in the rendering.

Not holding my breath for genuine capital enhancement.

I would like to see a high roofed glass train shed here, that would be killer.
