According to a news item I saw relativly recently the Tail O' the Pup has been sitting in a storage facility, but has been recently transported somewhere to be refurbished/restored and the owners hope to find a location where the establishment can reopen.

From the wikipedia entry:

Designed by architect Milton Black, the stand opened at La Cienega and Beverly boulevards in June 1946 to luminary-studded, searchlight-lit fanfare. Eddie Blake purchased the Pup in the early 1970's from its celebrity owners, the dance team of Veloz and Yolanda.

Despite its appearance in countless movies and commercials, the stand faced demolition in the mid-1980s, creating an outcry that resulted in the stand being moved from its original location at 311 North La Cienega Boulevard, to 329 North San Vicente Boulevard.

In December 2005, the Pup was evicted and it moved into a Torrance warehouse.

The picture below is from an article on www.nbclosangeles.com. It looks like the Tail o' the Pup was moved in February this year, and is headed for restoration in Las Vegas. The restoration is said to feature in a History Channel program, although I can't find any info about it on their 'American Restoration' episode guide. The picture is by Alison Martino.

The Cornitius Bros were realtors who appear at 7029 Melrose Avenue in the City Directories of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Strangely, those City Directories list a shoe repair business where the bakery is in the picture. The buildings west of 7025 Melrose (the one with the cartouche) have since been replaced with a Jiffy Lube. This is as close as I could get to the original camera location with the Googlemobile.

The structure on the right is the La Brea Building. Property websites list its build date as 1925, with propertyshark.com saying it was last altered in 1973. That means it's likely to be the same building that appears as Taylor and Sons in the original picture. I think I prefer the lighter color below.
