Hopefully it's done for good--this building was rather hideous, the massing was just incredibly awkward. Paris deserves much better!

Ermin Iskenderov wants to take over the Generali tower

According to our sources, Hermitage's CEO Ermin Iskenderov is interested in taking over the Generali tower project which has just been given up by the Italian insurance company.
"The Generali building is neighboring the 2 Hermitage ones whose construction is going to start in november of 2011. If we were able to purchase the project and modify it in a mixed use building, the Generali tower could come as a good complement to the Hermitages", he told us.
Designed by architecture firm Valode & Pistre, the Generali tower (92,000 m²/990,000 sq ft) is a demolition/reconstruction operation that was to replace the current Iris building. The project, which € 10 million would've been invested for in studies, had come through all opposing appeals at the time it was eventually canceled.
"We believe a lot in la Défense and we want to work in a broad way, Hermitage's CEO says. Since the giving up on the project, we've been thinking about the idea of adding a third tower to the Hermitage project." For now, Ermin Iskenderov affirms having made no proposal to Generali yet, but confirms the information that he had already talked about the idea of taking over the building to the Italian company a few months ago, "if some difficulties came up".
According to Hermitage's CEO, the giving up on this building is not "a bad signal to la Défense's market. This building was designed at a time when the market conditions were different from today's. An office building whose surface area is greater than 50,000 m² (550,000 sq ft) is no longer proper; that is why Generali gave up the project, not because the market would be bad." Ermin Iskenderov thinks "there are still today some reasons for the Generali tower to be, by offering some mixed, complementary activities like office space, homes and hotel rooms".

Generali announced last week that they are presently searching for funding. This project is not dead!

According to defense-92.fr, this is canceled for good.

Never mind, there will be something else on that lot. Saint-Gobain that's been in a building (les Miroirs) right across the boulevard wants it to build a new tower for themselves. Their project will be smaller - roughly 30-story, between 120 and 150 m (400 and 500 feet) - which means it won't significantly impact the skyline, but again to me, the most important is just to consolidate tall walls along the boulevard.

Some properly noticed that Saint-Gobain, coincidentally a corporation specialized in building materials, has a convincing experience in designing glass. They were responsible for the materials of the Louvre pyramid built 25 years ago, for instance. So quality materials expected for their own new home. I think, or say hope this will turn into something better than anything Generali could have built on a short budget.

An early stage rendering or whatever it is to introduce the new project to the residents of Courbevoie.

As seen from the pedestrian deck.

Nothing from the boulevard for now, but we'll probably get some better renderings later.

As the former tower, it's still designed by Valode & Pistre (not exactly the most exciting French firm, but that's the way it is) and developed by Italian insurance company Generali. Saint-Gobain will be the tenant as expected, at least if the project is approved once and for all, which is not done yet.

It's supposed to host a bit of retail on the 1st floor, that means the foot of the tower should be kind of open to strollers.

The title of this thread should change to:

PARIS | M2 (Saint-Gobain) | 174m / 570 ft | 39 floors

Construction of the substitute project mentioned above should start next year. Again, this is no speculative offices. The tenant is already known to this one.

Public inquiry will be on as of May 26, for a month, mohamed reported to French-speaking SSC.

Again, we're no longer speaking of the original tower that was canceled. This is what's coming up to the same lot along the north ring boulevard instead.

These would be the latest renderings. Funny, the sleek glass parallelepipeds remind of the glass you see to an Apple store façade... We'll see if they're able to make the same to this much larger scale.
As for the actual height, it depends on sources.
Either:

PARIS | M2 (Saint-Gobain) | 165.5m / 543 ft | 39 floors (from pss-archi.eu)

or:

PARIS | M2 (Saint-Gobain) | 174m / 571 ft | 35 floors (from the Fr-speaking SSC subforum)

The height of that tower is really nothing much cheeky today, locally, in la Défense, and funding seems reliable this time, now that a large French corporation is directly involved. So I guess it will be going up sometime soon. Supposedly starting next year.

Like a French mod once suggested to me as we were talking about a different and mid-rise proposal in Paris, I think this is what Saint-Gobain claims to mimic on those renderings, to a much larger scale, and not just to a more simple cube.

Lol good luck. Sure they're able to design some incredibly sleek glass, but that will be pretty expensive, I'm guessing.

They're preparing the site, for the shorter substitute reported in posts above, eh.
As seen a few days ago on that picture by Vincent.

In fact, this whole area's been a mess for years anyway.
So they need to demolish the gray building you can hardly see on the left, that's just 8 or so stories tall. I think they're currently scraping the interior.
The parking beneath will nonetheless survive somehow.

Just seen on SSC, they began foundation drilling a couple of days ago.

Posted by N3uz.

Meanwhile, they're still demolishing the midrise it's to replace.

Another rendering of the top.

Fingers crossed so it doesn't turn out messy.

This tower IS under construction. It is now called "Tour Saint Gobain" and property of French glass company Saint Gobain.
