Reno gets non-stop flights to London. This is after getting a new non-stop to Guadalajara later this year. Is anything happening at SMF this year?

not that I know of....I have been commuting to SFO for much cheaper long flights. Almost 200 dollars less RT for a minneapolis flight in 2 weeks on delta~

Yep, since SFO is only a little over an hour away, it hurts SMF to get anything substantial

I doubt any new airline would want to serve SMF with the expensive airline fees due to the expansion project. It's silly a city like Sacramento, with nearly 2.5 million people in the metro area and the millions living in the Central Valley, can not get transatlantic service - not even seasonal.

Unhappy A pipe dream?

Just heard the news yesterday that Reno, RENO has landed seasonal nonstop flights to London Gatwick. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture? SMF couldn't land this service because??? I'm starting to wonder if additional international air service is a pipe dream for SMF.

Remember Reno, RENO just landed the Tesla gigafactory, though!

Before you get too worked up about this, remember this is only seasonal air service two times per week. This is meant to serve tourists to Lake Tahoe for the winter ski season. An airline can initiate any service they want but let's wait and see if this route is profitable and sustainable.

Thomas Cook Airlines is similar to Allegiant, here in the US. It's dependent on selling package tours.

That's great! Should post this in the arena or construction/project thread.

Some good news out of SMF. Delta to add non-stops to Seattle starting May 4, 2015.

4x/day - operated by SkyWest.

Nothing earthshaking, but I'll take any good news for SMF I can get...

Delta and Alaska Airlines are competing fiercely against each other in Seattle, so other cities should gain from this competition and extra capacity.

Alaska is not part of the Skyteam airline alliance. But it does have codeshare agreement with Deltas.

More good news for Reno... RENO. JetBlue announced that starting this May, it will inaugurate daily non-stop service to New York-JFK. Here's the link:

http://investor.jetblue.com/phoenix....cle&ID=2007321

Sooo, in the last few months, Reno... RENO, has announced or started service to London, Mexico, and now, New York.

Sacramento?

RJ service to Seattle in May and, I've heard, starting next month, SeaPort Airlines is starting 2x/day (M-F, 1x SaSu) to... Visalia! (not making that up, I've heard this from people who should know.) Not sure if this has been announced.

Looks like that Tesla factory is really paying off for Northern Nevada...

I'm very disappointed with SMF. All that money poured into a $1 billion expansion and the only new service since the opening of Terminal B are Volaris to Guadalajara, Delta to Seattle, and American Eagle to LAX. I was a big proponent of the expansion project but now I'm starting to wonder if it was best consolidating all services at a expanded Terminal A. Reno has pretty much everything we have - and a flight to London. Talk about insult to injury.

Jetblue announces new non-stop flights from Sacramento to Boston. Seasonal only though.

JetBlue is adding nonstop flights between Sacramento and Boston, the airline said Wednesday.

The carrier will begin flying between the two cities beginning June 18. The flights will operate Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

It is the first time Boston has been available as a nonstop from Sacramento International Airport. Tickets go on sale Wednesday.
