Just hearing that name makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

Let's not forget that for years the city opposed high-rises, even as late as Mayor Fargo who once said we shouldn't put high-rises next to the river, even downtown. Plus we don't have a corporate-driven economy which pretty much created the modern skyscraper.

But what is going to really bring lots of new high-rises to our downtown is the residential, not government or corporate offices. We need to go all Vancover. We have no views to protect. No problems with shadows. But for that to happen people need to envision it. To get an idea of what that would look like and then to embrance it. And then for the city to make it a goal. How willing is the city to be so bold?

We're so incredibly far behind Vancouver but I completely agree with you. Having spent time there recently it's an amazing place. The transit is fantastic with Skytube making it easy to get around. Safe, bikable streets and a modern walkable urban environment make it a great place to live. All of those beautiful condo towers and walkable urban streets is my dream for Sacramento. We have sooo much open land around our core and land is cheap enough that it could be done. We have 2 beautiful rivers that are underutilized, great views of the Sierra Nevada and Coast Ranges that could be a selling point for high rise condos. We obviously have a lot of work to do with transit, particularly light rail, but we could definitely turn ourselves into a similar city.

The line I mentioned a while back was from San Diego--they aren't building any high-rise offices, just residential towers, because for the private sector, anyone with a laptop and a Starbuck's doesn't really need an office. But people (including families) want to live downtown.

The idea of a high-rise residential downtown, specifically in the CBD and Shops, was very much a part of the 2030 general plan. One of the disappointments of its recent updates was a seeming willingness of city staff and commissions to settle for more Midtown low-rise units instead of focusing on high-rise residential downtown, and push-back by the business community against the idea of living downtown in favor of offices nobody wants.

Hey everybody! Long, long time lurker, but I just finally made my own account. Has anybody had the chance recently to go around town and take pics of all the projects going on? Specifically Towniship 9, the Bridge District, Natomas post-moratorium, Broadway Triangle, etc. Pretty much all the big new construction and infill projects around town? I remember someone posted pics a few months ago (back in April maybe? I don't remember the exact post) but haven't noticed any new ones in a while. I would, but I live out in Davis. Hope everyone is doing great, and glad to finally have an account on the SkyscraperPage !

Very nice panoramic, they have cleared a lot of DTP already. Can't wait for that ugly macys building to go down.

Oh man... the roof of the Macys building is not draining water very well. They should build a glass 3rd floor so that men can have their own department again.

Nice shots.

It doesn't look like the arena is going to be very tall, about a story or two taller than the Macy's building. Most arenas are around 130-150 feet. The new arena seems to be 105-120 feet but we'll see when it tops out.

It looks like the floor of the arena will be below street level. Anyone know?

Yes. The court itself will be at the same level where the parking garage used to be. When you enter the arena, you'll enter at the top of the lower section, so you'll walk straight down toward your seats if they're on that level.
