The main reason I used the word renaissance is because much of the activity is being devoted to the renovation or renewal of older buildings that Birmingham has been fortunate enough to avoid experiencing demolition.

OK, so I'm about ready to post the city compilation thread. There's just one development that I can't find any details about that I want to include before posting it initially. It's the one that one of us mentioned "3rd Ave S/16th St S Apartments".

I left out a few things that I simply could not find info on or that I kicked out because I wanted to focus on urban development. Obviously, if you have any suggestions, you can post them in the future thread.

So, if anyone has info on that apartment development, please post!

I wish I could help. Glad to see us move up with the big boys with the new thread. That PDF was a great find.

Well, as far as what I post, I'm going to post things of a magnitude similar to the projects I details in the first post in the "City Compilations" thread. Projects more similar to the one that Shannon Waltchack announced about a strip of retail at UAB is something I think should stay in this thread.

two more restaurants added to the Uptown lineup:

http://www.al.com/business/index.ssf...do_joinin.html

i guess i had a different idea of what this place would be. definitely doesn't seem like an "entertainment district" if it's just a handful of restaurants that all close by 10:00 pm.

oh well... maybe that's good news for five points and lakeview.

I do not believe it would be too difficult to set up a stage in any one of the venues in the district to offer entertainment like live bands or standup comedians especially on the roof tops.

I feel the same way. I know there were plans for another building so the possibility for something else is still there. Someone suggested a comedy club. Id love a dave and busters. Maybe all the indie jazz type clubs prefer the less commercialized lakeview area.

That thing is huge - I wonder how the size compares to Cityville?

The parking may be below grade as well.

glad five points and lakeview seem to be holding their own amid all the downtown/uptown/parkside developments.

new bar in 5 pts (The Red Zone):
http://www.bizjournals.com/birmingha...n-hedrick.html

new brew pub in lakeview (Trim Tab):
http://www.bizjournals.com/birmingha...s-stewart.html

both open this fall.

avondale is another hot area right now:

http://www.al.com/entertainment/inde...l#incart_river

wish someone would do something with that abandoned 2 story building right across from avondale park next to parkside.

Details for the renovation/conversion of the Booker T. Washington building in downtown to apartments and ground floor retail have been released.

Plans call for a $7.5 million project with 32 apartments, rooftop deck, fitness center, 163 space parking deck, and corner balconies to be named The Parisian.

Source: AL.com

The article also has some nice information regarding LIV (whatever the project is supposed to LIV) and the Pizitz project.
