Went thru the latest agenda on their website but couldn't find any mention of those projects. Am I looking in the right place?

I took a little "spin" downtown today and noticed that steel is going up for the Scotia Center expansion...not a big project but nice to see it moving along. I did my weekly check on the Star of the Sea too and progress is being made...one scoop of dirt at a time.

Fingers crossed for a start on the Hilton this summer but I think it will still require one or two more approval stages through Council.

I noticed too that they are getting the walls enclosed on the new Boston Pizza too on Water Street across from the Civic Centre. It was bare steel for the longest time. Was beginning to wonder if it was gonna proceed.

I'll be glad to have that little bit of Water Street filled in.

The Convention Centre expansion is coming along nicely.

And the Hamilton and Brine condos are looking great.

Has anyone been by Star of the sea lately? Is it worth a photo update? Anything visible happening?

Someone said site prep or something? I don't know if it's true.

That would have been me. I noticed activity on the site about a month ago and last week when I drove by there was equipment and maybe half a dozen workers there. It looks like they have been shoring up around the property lines of adjacent properties, probably so that they can excavate further. I didn’t get a real close look but it appears to be a concrete type material applied directly to the exposed ground. Perhaps one of our Engineer posters can elaborate as to what is being done.

I had forgotten, until I looked it up last week, that Manga Hotels, the same people behind the Hilton Garden Inn on New Gower, are the developers behind Star of the Sea.

I should drive around downtown someday the week and take a look at stuff. Can't wait till it's warmer to go for a walk around.

Yeah it's the same guys. They told us at the Hilton meeting that the Hilton design would be changed. I don't know if it was shared here but that has happened. There was something, I think a letter from Galgay or whatever, noting that a new design was proposed and had gone back to committee or whatever for review.

Council minutes from Mar 2nd show a site excavation permit issued for 8 Water St. Any idea what it relates to? Temperence St. project perhaps?

Interesting article about high-end condos and how it might change the local market.

The latest on this seemingly always-changing project.

This is... ugly.

Wow, that is terrible! I hope this design doesn't get approved.

Public hearings will take place later this spring for a new commercial development on Blackmarsh Road across from the Dominion. The development, which has been approved by council, will see a gas bar, convenience store, Tim Horton's and even a bank. The area is close to the busy Columbus Drive intersection and not far from the lights at the exit and entrance to Dominion. Chair of the city's Planning and Development Committee, Tom Hann says an extensive traffic survey has been conducted in the area, and they don't anticipate any issues
