Makes perfect sense to me. Some spammer coming in here posting links to auto insurance quote sites gets their posts pulled without a second thought, while posts slagging an important contributor are allowed to remain even though the latter is much more damaging to the forum. Time to start hitting the 'delete post' button a little more liberally in situations like that.

Apologies for the many Ottawa posts. The city outside of the traditional downtown, and Dow's Lake, is rarely represented.

^Bank street south of Gloucester is a pretty good commercial main street, but it could be even better if they signalized every intersection south to Gladstone.

It wouldn't be cheap, but it would basically allow safe pedestrian crossings at every block.

Where the cross-street is really small, the traffic lights don't even have to permit through traffic. They can be effectively be always switched to green on Bank, and be stop signs for the cross-street, unless a pedestrian presses the button to cross. This would be similar to the set up they have in Vancouver where pretty much every block in a major urban neighbourhood is signalized with a flashing green light and pedestrian crossing.

Gestures like this are what make Vancouver probably the most walkable city among those that were really built for the car (wide arterial roads everywhere, easy parking).

We can still see the car-centricity in many places in Ottawa where intersection are not signalized if through car traffic volumes are low, ignoring pedestrian needs.

We have a few similar crossing as that Vancouver example in Ottawa, such as the Mac's gas station in Westboro. I assume this was done because Westboro station is a few blocks up Athlone.

We've had maybe dozens of these pop-up all across the City as well over the last 10 years or so, with flashing lights for pedestrian crosswalks, only activated (pretty much instantly) when the button is pushed.

Sorry to have to do this. But I took a picture of Laval and I'm going to share it now.

North End Halifax, 2016. I posted this series a while ago but I am not sure any were at this higher resolution.

Nice one. Quite a roundabout (we are getting tons of them in London, and they are a pedestrian nightmare).

I've never liked that block of Beechwood Village, the Indian High Commission is even worse than the seniors' residence. I forgive it, however, because it houses my favourite bookstore!

Some nice shots of Ottawa on this page. I do recall when driving up to this, though...

(Fun aside: the three characters "唐人街" literally mean "Tang people street," or "Street of the People of the Tang Dynasty." The Tang Dynasty (618-907) is held in high regard as one of the great eras of Chinese civilization.)

I have enough of all this negativity from the haters. I will stop posting pics in this thread as of now. Maldive, Torontodrew and all the others..
Since I made it on to your list of shame, I thought it time to try and start to make some amends for past teasing and wise-cracks… I do know how much effort you put into your posts, and though I rarely say it (out loud), Montreal has always been one of my favourite cities in North America. Nice new photo format.

I just love the Laurier. I'm secretly bitter that Ottawa has a beautiful hotel like that, and that Montreal never did.
