CALGARY | BCIMC Apartment Rental tower | 82.4M / 271FT | 26 Floors

BCIMC is proposing to build a 26 floor, 218 unit rental apartment tower in Calgary's Beltline neighborhood. The proposal has been around for a while and is just going through Calgary's planning commission this week. Word is that they will be starting soon on this one.

Not a bad looking tower. Nothing special, but good density, and the fact that it adds rental units will be good.

It's a reasonable looking building, and like you said....will add good density the the area.

Is there a reason most of these projects are all in the 20-25 story range? Not a bad building, just wish they'd build something tall & dynamic in the Beltline.

Economics mostly. It is a completely different dynamic building a 50 story tower to a 25 storey tower.

Deepstar: But block after block of the same? Some of these guys are the same developers aren't they? This isn't a bad looking building by any means.... it's just more of the same! Whatever, just my opinion.

I don't profess to know that much about the industry, but have heard that the taller the condo tower, the more complicated an expensive it gets. I'm guessing that would be the reason, but hey, I'm with you. I'd love to see a couple of 40 or 50 something floor towers go up in the Beltline, especially the east side.

They are taking their sweet time demoing the old Granite and Marble cutters building. I am exited to see this start up, and am interested in how they do the white rectangle. Cladding, stucco???

Pretty excited myself. Not that the design is wonderful, but because it's a rental tower, and also because it will add nice density to the Scarth street area.

It's good to see some rental towers going up finally. This with Aura Tower 1/2 should help alleviate some of the rental pressure on the market these days.

Not to mention that some of the other condo units coming on line such as Keynote and Alura, will also add some rental stock. A bit higher end rental stock, but rental stock nonetheless.

I noticed Kijiji/Rentfaster is already filling out with Keynote units, but the prices are definitely up there.

Alura, and Drake will be next up to add more rental units to the market, hopefully Drake's will be a bit lower priced.

Aura seems to be moving really slow. I seem to remember Aura and Drake were at one point almost at the same stage, now Drake is much further along.

Yeah, now that I think about it, spring is too early for sure. Next fall sounds about right.

That would be my guess. It's still a ways off yet.

Apparently there are pile drivers and equipment now on site for this one. Looks like there is a BP permit for this site, so we should see action soon.
