Can't help but notice all of the urban development in Saskatoon lately, super happy for the future of the city. How many projects in total are happening around Saskatoon's downtown at the moment?

Mind sharing some development with Regina though? We could really use it

Not so long ago, there was not much happening in Saskatoon for urban projects while Regina was seeing construction of the Mosaic and FCC towers, and a couple condo projects downtown. I guess we're each getting our turn!

But, to your question, there are a number of things happening right now that are probably worth summarizing for us all. In no particular order, and all at various stages of under construction, in sales, proposed, or inactive:

River Landing
- Alt Hotel/No. 1 River Landing condo
- East Tower
- Nutrien Tower

Is this World Trade Center still on the list? I mean as in still going to be built at some point?

The project exists to the degree that there's a website marketing it, haha. No doubt if they secure a tenant they'll build, but it's not likely to be any time soon -- if ever. Like I said, these projects run the gamut from under construction to "inactive".

I guess we could add the proposed commercial mixed use development at Cumberland and Preston...as I would still consider that an urban build versus suburb.

I think the WTC is no more - to save face they just half branded Prairieland Park to confuse people even more when coming here for events. It's now branded "The WORLD TRADE CENTER Saskatoon at Prairieland Park" lol

Wow, thanks for a very comprehensive list! I knew Saskatoon was experiencing a lot of development but that exceeded my expectations. With a lot of these new projects being at least part residential, how has this affected the population of downtown?

USask Reno’s

Stumbled across this article in a Sheaf story a few days back. Suprised this hasn’t made wider headlines.

Opening new doors: U of S to renovate five buildings and construct a $300-million facility

The University of Saskatchewan is renovating five buildings using the $85-million bond received from the provincial government last year. The university is also planning to construct a $300-million interdisciplinary facility for students in engineering and other applied sciences.
http://https://thesheaf.com/2019/02/28/opening-new-doors-u-of-s-to-renovate-five-buildings-and-construct-a-300-million-facility/

Facilities up for renovation:
  • Thorvaldson
  • WP Thompson (Biology)
  • Arts
  • Physics
  • University Library

Seems to correspond well with their current RFP for building conditions assessments.

I got an email message the other day from Meridian's Escala....as I had registered on their site...that the church is now empty and construction will be starting soon! (it was a final push for pre-construction pricing on units).

Wanuskewin

Recent article on Wanuskewin: https://thestarphoenix.com/life/brid...d-parks-legacy

Little new information there but good to see that construction of the additions is well underway and the Bison will be introduced in 2020.

Whoa, this is huge. $300M should produce a substantial building.

The Health Sciences 'D' and 'E' wings seem to have cost about $280M according to this, keeping in mind those figures are about 10 years old now. The most recent building added to campus, the Collaborative Science Research Building, cost $63.5M.

Understanding that the U of S has multiple competing priorities at any given time, I would really love to see them move forward their School of Architecture in the John Deere warehouse on 25th Street, and the Clarion Project at College & Wiggins. Unfortunately, we haven't heard much about either project in years.

That's great news! The renovation of those buildings has been a long time coming, good to see it's finally happening. I hadn't heard about the new Engineering facility - that sounds pretty significant. It's great to see these interdisciplinary research facilities (like the recent collaborative sciences research building) - quite innovative. The social sciences at the U of S could really use a bit of cash, I'll be interested to hear what renovations are planned in the arts building.

I see that the Nutrien Tower, plaza design, and Urban Capital's Broadway project all went through the MVA board last week: https://meewasin.com/about/developme...consideration/

There's a lot of detailed information on all 3 projects included in the attachments that I hadn't seen before.

The Urban Capital project on Broadway sure is planning to use every available square inch of the parcel for building on.

Re: Broadway Tower (Urban Capital)

I'm a little surprised by the amount of 3 bedroom units in this tower. Would have been nicer to see some more 2 and 1 bedroom units facing the river at the higher floors. My guess is that they are looking aiming for those who are downsizing but still want a decent amount of space within a condo unit.
