Thanks you guys! I'm working on a texture-based Weston right now, and then I'll turn to the rest of DT. The problem is, I really want to include the river, which requires working above and below street level, because most buildings have lower entrances at river level.
ydoc14-- Can't wait to see the GH! You better nail it!
Austin55- thanks for the tip about the glass! I'll try that. I've been working on a lot of other stuff in both Sketchup and KT, but I'm kind of all over the map trying things.
Here's a couple made-up city renders I've attempted:
I've done a few more I haven't posted to Flickr just yet.
As for the Weston Centre-- it's a combination of my own photo/sighting measurements, measurements made from Google Earth (which I don't entirely trust), Emporis figures, and guessing.
I'll post the texture version just as soon as it's done!
You've used coloring that makes it look like hand-crafted models-- I'm having a hard time believing this is actually in sketch-up

These are excellent! I'll have to check out Kerkythea. I've been toying with the idea of doing more photo-realistic rendering for when I photoshop my models into real photos, and that looks like just the ticket.
One thing you'll find is that Google Earth will start to get bogged down if you put too many really detailed models in there. For my Austin models, I really try to make them simple and use textures for detail. You may want to keep two models -- a detailed one for realistic rendering, and a simplified model for better performance in GE.
Thanks for the advice Priller. Your Austin models are the standard we all have to go by. My GE model had under 500 surfaces and no hidden geometry to keep it nice and simple. I added the large recessed windows to the WC-- now I need to add the garage and the large diagonally-oriented arched entryway between the garage and the main building.

I completed the Weston Centre's parking garage and foyer/bank lobby section, using Google Streetview and Virtual Earth's aerial photos as a reference. The ugly, non-cladded part of the garage is the part blocked by the Milam building. The rest is cladded with screens that are the same dimensions as the windows of the WC.

Milam Building!! (I guess I'm going block by block--me, Austin55 and ydoc can all meet somewhere around Alamo Plaza.) All the textures are from pics I took last winter and summer.
BTW, Austin55--that Holiday Inn looks pretty good! I haven't downloaded it yet, but I will, to check out the scale and everything. My scales are all 1:1 in Sketchup (actual size?) just so I don't have to do any resizing when I import them into Google Earth. I'll be in SA next week, so I can take more pics of buildings specifically for textures and also to get some dimensions down a little more concretely for me.

You might get there quicker than me haha...the Grand Hyatt's coming along slowly but surely...hopefully I'll have the base done soon so I can post it on here, I'm planning on using textures from pics as well.

Probably not though,as I dont have any access to SA textures so I might just skip around if you don't mind
