Huge miss if there's no urban form replacement planned for it. It's great to get basic necessities like the stuff you can find in Canadian Tire when you're living in an urban environment.

I'd be super surprised if it doesn't come back to Surrey Central eventually. That location was actually quite busy and super convenient. I also used to find it one of the better CT stores to go to. The Newton location is a huge pain to get to and service there is always non-existent not that service at any CT is above "meh" but Surrey Central location you could actually tell people worked there...

could the auto shop have been housed there?

I wonder whats going on in Central Mall, the old Rickys and a neighboring space are all behind new hoarding, I wonder if something is taking over the spots? there is a Chaiwala opening across from the Burger King and the Foot Locker seems to be gone from the Food Court, I always thought it was an odd spot for a shoe store amongst the Food Court.

Yeah, that's probably a big factor, but it's not unheard of to have a separate free-standing auto service building.
Sears often did that for their department stores (Sears Auto Centres)

Sears actually way back in the day had that at Central City mall when formerly Surrey Place. The old Best Buy building there was the auto center when I was in elementary school.

https://www.surreyhistoryfootprints....ntralcity.html

So yes definitely possible. There are also urban Canadian Tire locations without auto centers like the Cambie store in Vancouver. I could definitely see that happening and the auto center being relegated to the Newton / Langley locations.

The Cambie Canadian Tire has an auto centre.

Cambie CT is actually pretty full sized. I'm sure it's smaller than the Marine Dr location but it's not an obvious "urban" size like the Home Depot on the next block is.

When it opened in the early 2000s the Canadian Tire was said by the company to be the biggest they had developed. It had 63,000 of display area on two floors, plus warehouse space and the auto centre (and rooftop garden centre). Home Depot on Cambie was slightly larger when it opened, but having given up the lower floor that they initially also leased, it's now about the same size as the Canadian Tire.

Really? Wow didn't know that, it is hidden well. Then there's no excuse, they can definitely have an "urban" Canadian Tire in Surrey Central when the other phases are built or elsewhere.

That's where the new RBC is going in, so they can tear down the one on the corner of 102 and King George for another tower development.

First CRU is now occupied (nail salon of course). I don't want to say the second phase has started, but there's certainly a fair amount of site prep activity. I also saw a them boring test pits on the Canadian tire site I believe.

oh ok, thanks, makes sense.

Despite not a lot of great stuff in that mall, it's always busy.

Their site plan is on the website, looks like the occupancy goals are:

P2: 2025
P 3,4,5,6,7: 2027-2030
And 2031 for Phase 8

If I remember correctly they didn't release all the units for this tower at presale, and they were completely out in 90 minutes.

Thanks.
The 20,663 sq ft space looks good for a supermarket.
