Heh, that was my first thought: what an odd place to begin the paneling.

Very promising building. Thanks for all the updates Giallo.

Next time you go to Pudong could you pay a visit to the Gran Mélia Hotel, cladding has begun. And I think there are foundations works on the plot next to the Aquarium too. Any rendering there ?

Great update giallo, thanks for unveilling this new angle !

@ fabb : keep in mind that after this cantelever you will have a symetrical set back at the top. It's part of the very elegant global rounding of the facades angles.

Very promising tower ! I'm looking forward for the crown construction.

Are you kidding me? That awesome news. It will totally change the shape of the Pudong skyline for the better. It will also be the fourth tallest in Shanghai until Wheelock square is finished.

I'm not surprised though.
In the beginning, wasn't it supposed to be taller, then reduced ?
I wonder if they're not going for the initial plan.

No, it was supposed to be 200 meters high and it has be turned into 220m.

On the english version of the developper's web ( http://www.china-zrg.com ), official height is still 220m. Any new announcement on the plot ?

It's just a joke in the website.
However, the website is not available now. No proof now.

^ I think so. The Development tower was originally supposed to be 290m if I remember correctly.

The reason I'm skeptical about this change in height is because 220m was written on the poster outside of the construction site. I don't think you can start building a 220m building and decided half way through to add another 60m without preparing for it first.

Here is the poster with all the information including the 220m height. You'll have to take my word for it.

I was just about to comment the similarity to Tour EDF, but Fabb was faster than me.
Is this 289 metres thing just nonsense, or whut?

Anton,
Photos that are not taken from your apt. window? What a pleasant surprise!

I’m back from my huge China trip and of course I also covered all the construction going on there. So I have construction updates for buildings in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi’an, Hangzhou and Suzhou. It will take a while until I post all of them here, since I took over 13,800 photos during the trip and as you can imagine it takes a while to sort through all of them, but let’s start with Shanghai.

All Shanghai updates were taken between 16th and 21st August
