Modera Central Gets Approval With Conditions...

Modera Central still gets approved despite heavy opposition from some citizens in Orlando. If conditions are met, this can get built.

Slow Progress is being made on UCF's downtown campus

Here is more info about what is occurring with Creative Village in downtown Orlando. Making slow, yet steady progress!

Construction has finally began on this project!

Citi Tower construction has officially began and is projected to be completed by 2017. I'm very happy that another high rise will come to Orlando soon!http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/b...wn-s-next.html

Looks like it would be a cool ride on International Drive! :

The opposition is mostly coming from Universal Studios and not nearby residents! Who knew corporations can be such NIMBY"s too!
If built this will be the tallest structure in the Orlando area bypassing all of the buildings downtown.

Of course they would oppose something like this! I understand that this would be the tallest structure in central Florida, but this is incredible and at least it is worth having that title. I dont blame Universal for opposing it, but I want this to happen. I-Drive is expanding like crazy and this should definitely be featured on it.

Update on the projects in Orlando:

I just wanted to update you all on what is occurring in the Orlando area. If I miss anything, feel free to add things. But I am very proud to see how much the city is developing.

West Washington Towers: Two * 41 stories; 550 Units; 300 Hotel rooms- old proposal that has been revived. Still in the works.

UCF Creative Village: project presentation to Florida Board of Governors has been postponed
http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/b...wn-campus.html

Tremont Tower: Building permit has been applied for and could break ground before the year end.

I-Square Hotel: Here's an updated rendering. 400'+ Helicopter Pad was approved by the City Planning Commission. Really making good progress!

At this point, the garage is still in the planning phase. It has been approved by the planning commission and all of the opposition(lawsuits) surrounding the garage have been withdrawn. So it's a go for the garage. However, Mango Cafe said that it would open much later than the actual cafe itself. Here is an article with more information... http://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/a...ally-happening

Skyplex Orlando gets approved by Orange County Commission

Quote:
Orange County commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved the proposed Skyplex Orlando development on International Drive, which features a 501-foot roller coaster, despite intense lobbying from Universal Orlando...

Radical architecture seems very fitting in Orlando, IMO. I hope they build all this stuff.

I liked the first rendering of the Skyplex though, where everything more aluminum or magnesium clad(though maybe that was just a generic render). I don't like the red and white steel lattice look, it comes off as cheap and temporary.

Too bad the climate in Orlando is horrible.
