I'm neither for or against glass towers, but seeing all of these together makes me want a little masonry or precast in this area to balance things out. If even at street level.

As much as I agree, I don't see that happening. I can only imagine how much cheaper glass is, especially considering we need more housing space faster. Seems unrealistic, depressingly so. But it's always nice to be hopeful

It bothers me that The Avery, like Jasper and the upcoming Oceanwide Center, has its least interesting sides facing the directions from which most people will see it. They are all situated toward the photo perfect view from the water and waterfront.

From Powell and O'Farrell--The Avery is partially visible from Geary at Union Square too. The tower is unquestionably 618', as the developer has stated.

June 10, 2018 View of West Facade

Viewed from my apartment (a mile away) the view of the west side of 400 Folsom always looks like this, gray, no matter what time of day. It appears that it will be partially (hopefully completely) obscured by 500 Folsom. The yellow crane on the left is the site of 100 Folsom Street which will block my view of the San Francisco Bay Bridge tower which I have loved for 47 years. The white crane on the right is the site 500 Folsom Street, which may block my view of that bridge tower.

As I noted above, the interesting sides of this building face the waterfront and the bridge. I really dislike it when buildings turn their backs on the City and those who look at them most of the time. That said however, I don't find it an unattractive tower. Since it will be 618' and 500 Folsom 440' you will still see 178' of it, a substantial amount.

Perhaps someday the height will be updated from 575' on here.

Looks like the core at least is pretty much topped out so he probably won't see a lot more than now.

I agree. If you look at the renderings, there will be a glass crown/wall around it, much like the west side of 100 Van Ness. The core is clearly taller than Park Tower from many angles, so I see no reason to doubt the developer’s claim until someone verifies otherwise. I hope one of our fellow forumers can do that.

viewguysf, Pedestrian - I factor in the fact that I am 350 feet from the ground which means I will see more of whatever peeks above the foreground. :------>}

The Avery looks taller than the 600 foot tall 50 Fremont Center, and nearly as tall as the 645 foot Millennium Tower in this almost eye level view of the tops of all three towers (select link below).

https://app.oxblue.com/open/clarkcon...alesforcetower

The Avery does not look 575 tall. 618 feet appears to be the correct height.

You should know that the link provided hasn't been updated in over a month, and that the Avery actually has had a new 'cage' built on top that will increase its perceived height. It is viewable in my post above.

In an article in Friday's BizTimes about the building and Rem Koolhaas, the architect, it says the building is to be 618 ft.

Developer kicks off sales of high-end condos in San Francisco's Transbay district

The 618-foot tall Avery residential tower designed by Rem Koolhaas' OMA will bring more luxury condos at a time when new condo inventory is plunging in San Francisco . . . .

Yes, I know. I also see the new "cage" in Jerry of San Fran's posted photo. It looks about the height of the core. We should wait until the crown is complete to see if the building ends up slightly taller. Along with Pedestrian's quote from the San Francisco Business Time, I believe we now have sufficient proof for the moderators to update the title of this thread to "618 FT," and change the name of the building to "The Avery."
