Tucson!

Welcome. Be mindful of the lightning, hippies, and bikes. And the tweakers, homeless people, gangbangers, and the feeling as though you've returned back to 1999. Oh and the heat. Please to enjoy this weird, strange, but funky city.

Truthfully, the homeless and gangbangers are minor problems compared to urban California. The tweakers are problematic--I just put in a burgler alarm system after a rash of breakins in my area which I suspect were by meth-heads. Hippies --a bigger thing in Bisbee or certainly San Francisco.

But Tucson does have a problem getting free of past decades when oil was $10 a barrel and big wide streets full of cars were the urban ideal in the west.

Anyway, these are nice pictures and flatter the area which has a lot to recommend it but has sometimes been treated shabbily by its inhabitants.

I've been here since September and while I've gotten used to the fact that the residential part is PITCH BLACK at night (due to the city cutting back on light pollution due to the astronomers), I still laugh at all the Insane Clown Posse kids and their gang of bad haircuts I see at Ronstadt. The homeless don't bother me much other than asking for a cigarette. Although I did see one pull a knife on some chick on the bus.

I guess that means you are in high school--which means I am about 4 times your age. But we have the same reaction to the kids you are referring to. I get a laugh quite often at the kids in Tucson suburbs trying to be ever so "gangsta" and "downtown". I'm a snowbird and spend only half my time in Tucson--the other half in San Francisco--and I am quite used to seeing the real hip-hop thing from places like Oakland and LA. These kids in Tucson look like a characature even though they don't realize it (which makes them even funnier).

The homeless folks around here are like "homeless lite" too, by the way. I once got panhandled by a guy in Tucson while I was pumping gas into my car and I laughed at the guy. Then I explained to him how to panhandle.

Reports are we might get to see that snow on the cacti tomorrow.
