Back in 2009, when I first came across the photograph, USC didn't have the
zoom function/-so let's take a closer look

Now let's look at what's on the ground in the center of the photograph (initially I thought it was a movie theater / now I'm leaning toward a gas station)

Frustratingly, I can't make out any of the lettering on the signs, especially the white lettering on black.
Could it be 'lorem ipsum' (gibberish fill-in)? -that would prove some doctoring has been done.
