This area of Toronto is not much to look at right now, but as you can see it will be changing rapidly soon

My father worked in that beige building (Imperial Oil), far left, almost 50 years ago.

Has that hospital been there for a long time? Like, long enough to be the hospital my mom took me to when she thought I had appendicitis (I didn't) in 1972?

It's North York General at Leslie/Sheppard. Built in 1968. Not one of the better hospitals in the city. I hope it didn't take too long for you to be seen. I broke my arm as a child in '85, and lay on a stretcher in the hallway at NYG for about 13 hours. I remember lying on my back covered by a blanket and seeing my deformed arm sticking out the side. An unsettling sight for a 10-year-old.

Yonge and St. Clair is considered suburban? Obviously some areas that aren't "technically" suburbs should be included if they're fairly suburban, but this in the old city barely outside downtown.

Yeah, that’s the one. Makes sense that we’d go there since we lived just north of Steeles between Leslie and Bayview. I won’t go into details, but my experience there was just short of traumatic and one I will never forget. The doctor was a total a**h***.

ETA: Not as bad as your experience, but bad enough.
