I didn't know that, thanks for letting me know. I wonder then, how putting someone's likeness on a building is different from putting it on currency. If it's forbidden to worship a human figure in Islam, I would assume this permanent portrait be frowned upon by the community. What is the local response, if any, to the design as it stands now?

It isn't. Human images were banned for centuries, and technically remains so. It's why you see the extremely ornate, abscract paintings are found in traditional Islamic buildings.

This is more about capitalising on a personality cult than anything else.

Anyhow, has anyone heard of any other buildings with rediculously large portraits on them anywhere else?

Does anyone know what the portrait will be made of? Will it be paint, I would think not since paint would be high maitinence and probably fade in the dessert sun. My guess would be Mosaic tiles...

Nothing like having a creepy old guy in a wig stare at you anytime you pay for something.

Looks like a very angry building, as if it belongs on the Klingon homeworld.
