This aesthetic reminds of the future as once envisioned around 1968... in buildings like the IDS Centre's atrium (Phillip Johnson) for example. Extending it up the tower may be new... but the push/pull of glass volumetrics is not. I like it though... it's pretty breathtaking.

Actually the mahanakhon is rather like a building still standing but was once being crashed by an airstrip. the broken like parts are circling the building.FUNNY!

Fantastic! Can't wait to see a daytime shot of it to see if it's as shimmery silver as the rendering.

Wow. It looks amazing. The world's first "glitchy" skyscraper.

Can't really tell from this picture but it looks like the glass in the recessed portion is a different colour. This has turned out great!

I remember liking it when I saw the renderings. It looks cooler in real life. Yep, glitchy is cool.

I agree.....though I think the construction industry has come a long way, terms of materials quality (IDS center just looks cheap to me: makes one pine for refined structues like the Lever House)

Bangkok's Unconventional MahaNakhon Nearing Completion

Quote:
MahaNakhon is now almost fully clad as work on the rooftop continues. Photos from Flickr users Thomas Bjørnstad and Mr. Cat show the skyscraper's placement in the skyline as it towers over its neighbours. The building is expected to open later this year to great acclaim.

Wow, awesome tower. Design is very futuristic looking. Anyone know what else the architect worked on?

It's comical and light-hearted in a good way. I'm not sure if that's what the architect was going for, but it makes me smile to look at it.
