Wow I'm really starting to like 220 CPS. Someone said it might look similar to 15 CPW and that's a good thing.

It's quite interesting that the limit seems to be about ~1,400ft. What the city really needs, is a real (i.e. to the roof) 1,600 or 1,700 foot tall building. Because as of now we don't have a signature tower. So I really hope the Hudson Spire can deliver here.
True. Something around 1600 or at least 1550 would be nice. I would go for 1550 minimum. Haha.. Are you listening Gary Barn.?

New: 55 Broad Street, 742ft (226m) and 53 floors. The project could be merged with 45 Broad Street (710ft, 62fl) resulting in a supertall.

Nice rendering of the Hudson Spire (roof 1,800ft, antenna 2,000ft) by Rey73:

Keep in mind, this is just a conceptual rendering and not the real deal.

Due to travelling / studying, I won't be online for a couple of weeks (~5). Feel free to update the thread and post any major info on New York projects.

That picture is amazing, but it doesn't really capture the full scope of the coming changes because it leaves out the Schvo tower, 31 W.57th, the towers that will result from the Midtown rezoning, the towers near Penn Station...

It's going to be an exciting 30 years even though there will inevitably be bumps in the road.

Yep. It gives a sense of the buildings presence on 57th street.

No, the ESB had it's time. NY needs to move forward; new (supertall) towers will rise near the ESB, whether we like it or not.
Well, even though you posted this 3 years ago, Im happy its not going to be built. I mean, there is a difference in saying, lets build a bunch of supertalls in new york (because im all for that), then there is in building a skyscraper RIGHT next to one of the worlds most famous icons. That would be like putting a supertall behind the Eiffel tower and being like, "Well, Paris has got to keep moving forward!"

when the area around Madison Square Garden (and the site itself) is redeveloped, there will be more 15 Penns to look forward to. The Empire State Building will lose its dominance eventually but it will never lose its luster.

It isn't remotely similar, because the Eiffel Tower is built in parkland, and surrounded by protected, historic neighborhoods, while the ESB is built in the middle of Midtown, and surrounded by extreme density with few height or historic preservation protections.

And that Hotel Penn site will eventually get a huge tower, just not right now. Vornado has continued to assemble air rights for the site.

And right across the street is a development site with twice the air rights of Hotel Penn- MSG. So the ESB will be topped anyways at some point.

So true. But this next "5 years" will be a bombshell in and of itself.
Care to make another list of the supertalls?

This is off my head, the numbers aren't all correct, and I'm probably missing a few.

1. Tishman Speyer Hudson Spire ~1800 ft
2. 1 WTC - 1776 ft
3. 1 Vanderbilt - 1200ft+
4. 215-217 w 57th Street - 1424 ft+
5. 432 Park Avenue - 1397ft
6. 111 w 57th Street - 1350ft+
7. Empire State Building - 1250 ft
8. 30 Hudson Yards - 1227 ft
9. 1 Bryant Park - 1200 ft
10. 2 WTC - 1350 ft
11. 3 WTC - 1150 ft
12. 50 Hudson Yards - 1068 ft
13. 35 Hudson Yards - 1000+ft
14. 3 Hudson Boulevard - ~1000 ft
15. New York Times Building - 1050 ft
16. Chrysler Building - 1050 ft
17. Tower Verre - 1050 ft
18. One 57 - 1005ft
19. 1 Manhattan West ~984ft
20 2 Manhattan West ~984ft
21. 80 South Street - 1000+ ft

the old WTC if you want to count those as 'built' in NYC
22. 1 WTC (destroyed) - 1368 ft
23 2 WTC (destroyed) - 1362 ft

I wonder what the status is on 80 South Street? That one has been a long time in the making. I remember the first design concept. Shame it didn't go through. The large cube concept would have made it very 21st Century.

Robert Walpole (under the psuedonym LordArthurWellesley) has indicated that there will be a large residential tower announced in the next month or so.
