Looks nice, but that setback is dreadful.

This is one of those rare cases where the setback itself is what looks bad. I've mentioned this in this thread before I think but I will repeat. The base that meets the streetwall IS TOO SHORT. It is not aesthetically pleasing and LOOKS BAD. The base should have been a minimum about 2 to 3 times taller to look proportionallly "right" with the shaft of the tower. It's really too bad that the city doesn't get off their ass and do something about these awful sky plane building codes that result in unattractive developments. The Garment District has been nearly ruined by the setback budget hotel plague.

Art Deco-Inspired Rose Hill Begins Ascent At 30 East 29th Street In NoMad

Construction on 30 East 29th Street, aka Rose Hill, is moving along quickly in NoMad. Work on the foundations wrapped up in January and now the upcoming 639-foot-tall structure is several floors above street level. The upcoming 45-story project is located between Park Avenue South and Madison Avenue and is being designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and developed by Rockefeller Group. The residential high-rise will incorporate an Art Deco-inspired design, setting it apart from other neighboring towers rising in the development boom, responsible for changing the skyline south of the Empire State Building.

The construction crane sits in the center of the completed setback and will continue to climb up the northern side of the reinforced concrete structure.

The podium floors have now been built up and the first set of residential levels has begun assemblage. The tower will contain 123 apartments ranging from studios to four-bedroom residences. The 40th to 43rd floor will feature duplexes with two-story-high windows and private terraces that span the depth of the eastern and western elevations. In total, 30 East 29th Street will yield about 226,000 square feet of space, with 167,000 dedicated to the residential units.

The dark-colored façade will implement subtle Art Deco flourishes like Chevron-patterned railings for the terraces and perimeter columns, bronze finishes, decorative etched grilles that will cover the mechanical floors, and an array of vertical lines that enhance the slender building’s sense of height. The top will be capped with an illuminated, multi-story crown that emulates the look of the columns that surround the base and main entrance, giving the structure a visually coherent appearance from top to bottom.

Completion of Rose Hill is most likely expected sometime in the first half of 2021.

Developer Rockefeller Group, formed more than 90 years ago, is best known for Rockefeller Center — home to NBC and the famed Christmas tree. But only now is it building its first New York residential tower. The condominium, named Rose Hill, is located at 30 E. 29th St. — and gets its name from the erstwhile 130-acre Rose Hill Farm estate, whose grounds it stands on. The Art Deco-inspired facade is the work of husband-and-wife architects Nancy Ruddy and John Cetra (above, left).

Sales are set to launch in May, but prices aren’t yet available.

The 123 residences span studios to three-bedrooms; many have private outdoor spaces. Rose Hill will sport a full package of amenities, including a health and wellness club with a 50-foot indoor pool, a residents’ club with an observatory and a private dining room and a pet salon.

I think this is one of those cases where the final product will turn out better than the renderings. Looks promising.

Oh it leaves that charming party wall of the shit box next door. How thoughtful of them. Is this building code ever going to be fixed? The base of this tower that meets the streetwall should at least be the height of the building to the left.

Rockefeller Group’s Art Deco-inspired Manhattan condo launches sales

The Rockefeller Group first made its mark on Manhattan in the 1930s, with the creation of the massive Rockefeller Center complex in Midtown—a landmark that remains to this day, albeit largely under different ownership.

And now, the firm is hoping to make its mark again, this time in the residential space. Sales have launched for Rose Hill, the Rockefeller Group’s first condo development in Manhattan. That 600-foot skyscraper, located on East 29th Street, is currently under construction; when complete, it’ll have 123 apartments ranging from studios to four-bedrooms.

And those units will not come cheap: The smallest will start at just under $1.2 million, and will go up from there. The building will also have some penthouses, although specs for those are unclear at this point.

CetraRuddy is designing the building inside and out, and the firm is looking to the past for its design: The Art Deco style informs the building’s bronze-colored facade, which will have geometric accents and culminate in an illuminated crown. Some of the larger apartments will have private terraces, which themselves will have detailing that evokes early 20th century architecture.

Rose Hill’s Art Deco-Inspired Façade Installation Begins At 30 East 29th Street In NoMad

Installation of the dark-colored curtain wall panels has begun at Rose Hill, aka 30 East 29th Street, in NoMad. The Art Deco-inspired envelope now covers the podium and first residential floors of the future 45-story skyscraper, which is located between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue South. Designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and developed by Rockefeller Group, the tower will stand 639 feet tall and become one of the most prominent structures in the neighborhood. CORE is managing sales and the marketing of the units.

New photos of the main northern elevation along East 29th Street show the progress of construction and the façade installation.

The best way to see the curtain wall is from the sides, where shadows on the textured metal panels bring out their geometric details. Meanwhile, the reinforced concrete superstructure is nearing the halfway mark, which it could surpass by the end of summer.

Rose Hill will be visible from Madison Square Park when looking to the northeast. When complete, it will join the growing number of moderately tall skyscrapers in NoMad and make a mark on the famous Manhattan skyline. The ornamental crown, which appears adorned with a number of floodlights and setbacks in the main rendering, will further enhance its architectural presence and silhouette. The chevron panels punctuate the floor-to-ceiling glass panes and will distinguish Rose Hill from other new towers around the city. A number of terraces and balconies are interspersed along the edges of the upper floor plates, creating more depth and breaking up the rectangular massing of the lower half of the skyscraper.

The one-note chevron motif cheapens the appearance of this one. Makes it look very old fashioned Post-Modern. Plain fluting on the vertical elements would have looked a lot better, and probably a lot more Art Deco.
