NEXUS is a nice option. Benefits in SEA are mixed. If customs is backlogged you end up stuck upstairs waiting to get into the customs and immigration hall. The lines only split once you get downstairs that the point where NEXUS has a separate line up, CDN and US citizens and everyone else. For CDN and US passport holders you use an automated machine.

Sounds like NewLeaf is only flying to Saskatoon (and three other cities) on a seasonal basis.

/me waves from Regina... we're in Saskatchewan too! And we're one of the four.

Frustrating. Oh well. Flying out of Regina really sucks right now.

I think the biggest issue for New Leaf in Saskatchewan is lack of marketing and advertising. Pretty much every person I've spoken to has never heard of New Leaf and their destinations. Flew with them this week to Kelowna. Flight was perfect. On time and what I expected. No extra costs. Paid for what I used and half the price of Air Canada and West jet. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a cost effective flight. I will use again.

I heard that Saskatoon's new downtown highrise correctional facility will be opening in the near future... only one peculiar thing about it; it's signage says 'Holiday Inn and Suites'.

It says they are temporarily suspending between Nov 1 and mid December but should resume and for the holidays.

I also flew Newleaf and found it really great.

Even in Winnipeg, which is supposedly their "home town", their marketing presence is minimal at best. Hardly anyone I know is aware that they're actually flying. I guess money is tight as a start-up, but you'd think they'd spend a few bucks on billboards and commercials to get the word out.

Nice to hear that you had a good experience though... I haven't been on NewLeaf yet, myself.

They seem to make pretty regular updates using twitter and Facebook but if you don't know about them and specifically following them you're right; pretty much next to no advertising. I would assume word of mouth would eventually get around but I think right now - route wise, they are hampered by the fact they only have 4 aircraft.

Have Westjet, Sunwing and Air Transat announced their full winter schedule destinations from YQR yet for south of the border? Also, do you think down the line, Air Canada Rouge's plan will be to directly compete with these airlines flying out of smaller centres south?

Air Canada is highly unlikely to fly to any US or international destinations from YQR or YXE, given their hub-spoke model. All such flights will be out of hubs, at least minor hubs.

Does Air Canada do much for US flights out of larger non-major-hub airports like YEG or YWG?

Definitely. At least until codesharing started.

Dc9s back in the day. Used to be Aeroplan short haul for 15 k IIRC. I think it changed to UX in early 90s.

Air Canada use to have a Jazz flight to Las Vegas out of YWG in the winter, seasonal and I think it ended in 2010 or 2011 but otherwise AC is all about their hub n spoke. WestJet is the only hope for US flights.
WestJet Encore could maybe do a flight to Minneapolis one day out of YQR given their code share with Delta?

Apparently Westjet is recruiting people from legacy airlines and is about to introduce a more hub and spoke oriented model.

In YWG I'd say it's the other way around, there are rumours that Delta is gonna invest into WestJet and redo it up like it has done with Birgin Atlantic, GOL and AeroMexico
