Drew Willy gone and Kevin Glenn comes back to Winnipeg as reported by the CBC this evening:

We actually robbed the east. Great moves by Walters. Crazy, not used to seeing good trades from the Blue.

Yes, very good work. I was discussing yesterday afternoon with family (while at a pickerel fish fry, mmmmm) about the risk of trading Willy and having no back-up. Walters solved both issues in one swoop. Good job!

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of Willy... remember, it was not that long ago that Nichols was written off as an expendable spare part. We got him for a seventh round pick of all things, the football equivalent of trading a guy for a bag of pucks.

The timing of the Willy trade also seems a little risky. We play Toronto on Saturday. Regardless of where or against whom Willy's next start comes he has a point to prove and the Bombers can't afford to have him make that point against us at home.

I don't think it's too risky. Even though I'm not totally sold on Nichols, given his problems in the red zone, Willy was absolutely horrible. The Bombers are also high on their 3rd and 4th stringers, and Glenn is a great backup. Plus they got Toronto's best DB. The defense is going to be awesome.

Really don't think Willy was smart enough to play QB, guy couldn't read a defense and was a sitting duck back there, his CFL career moving forward will be brief!

The coaches here rave about how smart Nichols is and how quick he is to read a defense, never heard that once said about Willy and it's probably why Willy took such a pounding back there!

I really like Kevin Glenn as a person but he is one heck of a bad luck charm as far as starting QBs go. I expect Nichols to go down in TO.

Nicholas going down in TO would be pretty lucky for the Bombers as that would mean they are playing in the Grey Cup this year. The upcoming regular season game for the Bombers v Toronto is in Winnipeg.

OK, so not many people are expecting the Bombers to pull it off this weekend vs. Calgary, but holy smokes would that be a statement if they manage to actually do it. I will probably be more excited than at any point since the ill-fated 2001 season when it looked for a while like the Bombers were actually going to win it all, until they got derailed by... Calgary.

In 2011 the Bombers went into week six against the "unbeatable" Eskimos that had yet to lose a game that season and achieved a huge win on their way to winning the division and a Grey Cup appearance. It might be coincidental but Paul Lapolice was on the coaching staff at the time too.

I think much like 2011 when the Bombers came in underdogs and left with the respect they deserve. I think people are underestimating this years Bombers and a win tomorrow in Calgary would make a loud statement for the rest of the season as the road to the Grey Cup in the west this year is going to mean beating Calgary.

One of the other things that gets overlooked some is that while Calgary is on a long winning streak they have gone to overtime twice. This isn't a team that can't be beaten so much as it is a team that has gotten lots of lucky breaks go their way.
