USA Sprawl Festival continued: Phoenix-East

Since Windows Live Local recently added some more cities to its bird's-eye view collection . . . and since I'm bored and also addicted to Windows Live Local I decided to add some more sprawl pics.

The other thread got really big and I think not everyone wanted to download everything just to see certain cities they were interested in, so I've decided to give each city its own thread for this round.

I found Phoenix sprawl to be particularly interesting to look at, so I've dedicated not one, but four threads to it. The combination of sprawl-in-the-desert stuff and the otherwordly oasis-in-the-desert stuff was just so fascinating I got addicted! Plus the Southwestern architecture looks neat.

East Phoenix

This is mostly in Mesa, maybe some Gilbert, too. So I guess it would really be southeast Phoenix.



Yes, this is the desert we're in! The miracles of vast engineering projects!

One of the MANY mobile home parks in Mesa. It looked like about a fifth of the land in Mesa was occupied by mobile home/manufactured housing parks!






Not mobile homes, but "manufactured housing."


I'm getting dizzy.
Older stuff seems to have straighter streets than newer stuff.

Yuck, I just threw up in my mouth.

At least Midwest sprawl has plenty of greenery to mask the blandness and fuglyness. The same can't be said for the desert SW.

I'm personally not against the concept of the indoor mall, but that pic looks just SICKENING.

Regarding all of the Trailer parks in east Mesa, these are all full of retirees (snowbirds) who stay here during the winter.

However, these are slowly being replaced, as retirees now prefer to stay further south or west of the valley.

These parks are highly coveted by developers, and are being turned into permanent home developments. People also like to buy up 2 or 3 contiguous lots, remove the trailers, and then build homes on them. You probably won't see many of these left in 10 years. They are experiencing redevelopment patterns similar to what the orange groves in the area underwent 20 years ago.
