There was never an actual announcement that they were going to build ramps, at least that I recall.

Agreed.

They have drawn up plans for a new interchange at McLaughlin/TCH, but they have no announced funding or any particular time frame.

Personally, I think if the retail development at Granite Drive takes off, and if there is any growth on the east end of the Vision Lands, that the new interchange will come sooner than later, certainly within the next 10 years.

I noticed the other day when I was driving by, that the old Keddy's motel property was sold and there were two people walking around the property.

The overpass dogbone has its basecoat of pavement now, they are still working on widening the train tunnel that goes under the Dieppe side of the overpass as of this morning. It looks like they have some curbing, guard rails and top coat left to do then they will be set to open.

Is there a plan diagram for that overpass change? I can see the previous layout on Google Maps satellite view and the beginnings of construction, but I'm curious to know how it's been improved since it seems like a pretty run-of-the-mill overpass to me.

Driving by can someone explain to me why they had a bulldozer just driving back, and forth pushing Construction garbage around? It seems weird to me considering there din't seem to be any other movement when we drove by.

Thanks Myles! I see now why it's being referred to as a 'dogbone'. A roundabone if you will. Looking at it makes me wonder if we'd ever see an overpass in this province done with a diverging diamond design.

I'm curious as well. My guess is probably won't see any diverging diamond interchanges in New Brunswick for a long time. I believe there are only one or two in the country at the moment. Purely speculating but my guess is that the DD can handle larger traffic volumes at the expense of requiring two signaled intersections and without the safety benefits of a roundabout - i.e. no chance of T-boning because cars only merge, not cross perpendicularly.

Despite it's unusual shape, this type of configuration is actually pretty common especially in Europe. They just tend to leave the 'roundabout' in the middle a circle, rather than squishing it.

Videos on DDI's and how they work for anyone that is curious.

Pretty cool stuff but yeah I don't think we would see this for a while, but possibly in our lifetime though. Maybe when they need to redo this interchange once more when it needs to be upgraded? This picture is close to the exact same scenario as Harrisville Blvd. and Dieppe Blvd.

Those large round junctions are actually out of fashion in most European countries due to their prohibitive cost (the early days of freeway construction were not exactly cost-efficient, just like how north america was building cloverleafs all over the place for a while), the high speeds at which cars swing around the circle and the space used.

Interestingly, as north america builds more and more modern roundabouts with slower speeds and safer entrance and exit rules to replace aging traffic signals and traditional interchanges, the UK in particular is replacing its old, unsafe roundabouts with... traffic lights.

I was there today and they have about half of one kilometre to pave until they hit McLaughlin Drive. So it's almost done!
