the 'burbs are definitely growing like a weed. just seems boise's growth has slowed.

personally, i'd like to see boise do some serious annexing and extend the city limits to areas that are prime for growth, such as the land between the micron plant and the canyon.

I'm really impressed with the robust growth Coeur d'Alene has experienced over the last half-decade! Up 11.3% since 2010, it's growing at 2.5x the rate of the Spokane-CdA CSA and more than double Idaho's state growth rate of 5.6% (5-year)

Coeur d'Alene:

2010: 44,137 (Base Year)
2011: 45,024 (+887; +2.01%)
2012: 45,574 (+550; +1.22%)
2013: 46,378 (+804; +1.76%)
2014: 47,887 (+1,509; +3.25%)
2015: 49,672 (+1,235; +2.58%)
5-yr total increase: +4,987 (11.30%)

Spokane/CdA CSA:

2010: 667,487 (Base Year)
2011: 670,964 (+3,478; +0.52%)
2012: 674,724 (+4,760; +0.71%)
2013: 679,955 (+5,231; +0.78%)
2014: 688,160 (+8,205; +1.21%)
2015: 698,170 (+10,010; +1.46%)
5-yr total increase: +31,684 (4.75%)

I wonder how long it will be before Elmore county joins the MSA.. seems like lots of commuting between mountain home and boise...

also, the city of boise needs to annex the southwest ada county alliance.. that has been put off long enough and with all the development, it's just time.. that would bring another 40K people into the city of boise population..

High Birth Rate, Domestic Migration Result in Idaho Becoming Third-Fastest Growing State in U.S.

Quote:
Idaho's population was pegged at 1,683,140 as of July 1, representing an estimated increase of more than 30,300 residents from the previous 12 months.

Economists said the population growth could be attributed to a combination of a high birth rate and in-migration from other states. Approximately 19,000 people moved to Idaho from states within the U.S. and abroad between mid-2015 and mid-2016. Additionally, Idaho's birth rate—13.7 births per 1,000 women—was ranked seventh highest in the nation.

Interesting that at some point in the near future all 5 of Idaho's largest cities will be part of the Boise MSA. Coeur d' Alene is buzzing along but I think that'll slow mainly due to geographic constraints whereas Caldwell doesn't have any...

Was checking out CSA population numbers on the Wiki- looks like Boise is at 770k while Spokane-CDA is at 710k. Wonder how that works our density wise since Boise’s CSA stretches 100 miles versus Spokane’s 35 or so.

The Spokane CSA (Spokane, Stevens, and Pend Oreille Counties in WA and Kootenai County, ID) covers 6886 square miles, and has a population density of 103 people per sq/mi.

The Boise CSA (Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Owyhee, and Payette Counties in ID, and Malhuer County in OR) covers 22,173 square miles, and has a population density of 34 people per sq/mi.

What makes the Boise CSA seem so sparse compared to the Spokane CSA is the inclusion of Owyhee and Malhuer counties. While these two counties add 17,626 square miles, and by themselves are 2.5 times the area of the Spokane CSA, they add fewer than 43,000 people.

In other words, Owyhee and Malhuer counties make up over 79% of the land area of the Boise CSA, but only contain 5% of the population. Hence the much lower population density of the Boise CSA.
