Too bad they have those cheesy struts/hangers between the balconies (and on the other side as well). If the developer wanted a dramatic architectural effect, they should have paid for it with a more expensive structural engineering solution that would not have required the struts. This just looks cheap.

Couldn't the struts be a mental check kind of deal. Maybe to ease the mind of those on the balconies.

I doubt we'll ever know the real, whole story. First of all, were these workers fired before or after they reported this? Somewhere in the article it suggests they were fired, then they got a lawyer and filed suit about the dolls. Could be a way to get some money while getting back at their former employer. Second, I doubt "the white guys" did it--very few white construction workers in SF. The article does also suggest it was done not by Clark employees but Bigge, the crane operator. That makes more sense--the crane operators may be white.

Finally, what are those things anyway? My first thought is they may be some kind of deodorizing thing (in however poor taste) and not actually meant as a racial attack.

Huh? Those are definitely two African American baby dolls hanging by their necks with black string (looks kind of like shoe laces). Pause the video at the 8 second mark.

Yes, the world is filled with hate. But everyone deserves to have a workplace free of harassment. Whoever did this should be fired.

Dolls? They are black figures but what they actually are isn't clear to me. Using African American charicatures on everything from salt and pepper shakers to pancake boxes to hitching posts used to be more common than it is today but I've seen all sorts of such in past decades (and mostly in other parts of the country).

I'm not suggesting it matters much. The purpose of hanging them there seems actually clearer than what they actually are.

This all seems increasingly off-topic at this point...
