Thanks but, I do read his posts. Point towers with townhouse podiums is a product of the Vancouverism ideologue that is centre around softening the urban experience through tower floorplates, towers distances, setbacks and sightlines to name a few. He has a thing for complex, inticate designs ( don't we all?) that are seldom pulled off well and sees the business end of development as an excuse.

Indeed, expect a couple thousand units of residential in a mixed use village there over the next decade or two.

I agree with that, and I don't hate the building, but it is definitely not an exciting or interesting design either.

I like the St John building. It is certainly not flashy, but once built it will look like it has been there for decades, which is not the worst thing.

It's totally a 1950s design. Looks solid but if it's prefab and not limestone why bother?

Yes and he is a critic of most of what you have described when it is contextually-inappropriate. Nuance is key. He does see the business end of development as an excuse, and often it is, especially amongst those who would pretty much defend anything local.

Whippersnapper is only referring to "the business end of development" to justify why 8 of Toronto's last 8 office towers are and should be blue boxes. Debatable... but we're here to talk about architecture; that's why when yet another forumer brings up that cliche about Vancouver's "sea of blue/green glass" you'd never hear me bumbling about market forces and buyer preferences

But yeah, everything he said about sightlines, liveability, softening the public realm, etc, I'm a big fan. I laugh at those who fetishize Manhattan.

The last time Toronto tried a gimmick office tower we ended up with Brookfield Place.

Thanks, but no thanks, you can keep the wacky office towers out there if that's what you like.

You're not here to talk about architecture. You're here to mock those that do not share your sensibilities. It's all over that post and every other post you have ever posted. You also completely miss the point of things likely out of indifference.

I'll make it as simple as possible. So what. They are 8 blue boxes. Some are mediocre and some are good. You want even better? It ain't coming from our large commercial developers or our largest corporations.

It's probably one of my favorite PoMo office buildings in the country. I don't like it's twin so much though.

So long as he doesn't change it to Kanye West, I won't complain.
