Even though it doesn't seem that special, this is one of my favorite projects. I have fond memories of that park and this building just seems like it belongs there. I like the canopy effect it gives you from the park.

Does anyone know which portion will be hotel space? I have yet to see interior shots, but judging from their other projects it'll be tacky and busy.

I've been stalking them for awhile and have been honestly a bit shocked at how little info there is out there about the Austin hotel. No renderings, no restaurant announcement, no floorplans of meeting space, guestrooms, or anything else.

Compared/contrasted with the Proper's slow and steady rollout . . . ZaZa's pretty far behind the eightball at this point, IMO.

Looking at the other renderings, it looks like hotel space will be between parking and the apartments above. About 4-5 floors of rooms. I only assume these are the hotel rooms because they don't have balconies.

Yeah, I really don't see them as a serious contender in the Austin hotel market and have always been shocked they are still a brand tbh... Their interior design is absolutely horrendous.

Their properties are kind of over the top, but they have proven very popular with a certain segment of the market. Trip Advisor ranks the Dallas property as Number 2 in the market, and the Houston property is rated as Number 11 in that market. I think these rankings are based on strength of customer reviews. I guess "quirky" decor means "tacky" decor to some folks. I think the bachelorette party crowd and girls getaway crowd like to get down at the ZaZa.

It's right next to their favorite new spots, Rain and Highland.

Their product and marketing has always struck me as speaking to a very specific corner of the market. NOT millenial hipsters, but older, moneyed, eclectic. Artsier city-dwelling Texans of a certain age.

I quite like the look of this building, much more so than the building to the left of it in your second picture in desperate need of an overhaul. All in all this should be a nice spot to hang out when opened.

That's plaza lofts. Which, as a fun fact, I believe is the ONLY building Sutton Company has ever sucessfully developed in Austin. It's private condos, but I think they're in the process of re-finishing the exterior now. I know a lot of other condos are in the process of doing that this year as well (Hilton, Shore, etc.).

It looks bigger than I thought it would. Maybe because all of its neighbors are an order magnitude smaller...

They did Brazos & Avenue Lofts plus a few conversion projects. See https://suttoncompany.com/other-projects/

That's good. It will create less dust when its eventually imploded.

I kinda like it, it's our weirdest little 70's brutalism to 80's po-mo transition garbage pile in town in my opinion. Preserve the weirdness! (but please add some ground-floor interaction!)
