Damn, that's a fine-looking street right there.

I hope it's not damning with faint praise to say that if Saint John were ten times larger population-wise, and the built-up area represented by this photo filled the downtown peninsula entirely and spilled well into the region north of said peninsula, as well as occupying much of the peninsula to the west ("West Side Docks"?), well, then...I think I'd be living there.

I'm hoping to do a car trip to the Maritimes one of these summers, and Saint John is definitely one of the more compelling destinations on the list.

we need to see more of Victoria on here.

For St. John, I have family in the suburbs (Rothesay), and as a kid we would always just drive right by downtown on the highway and ignore it. Growing up I always thought of St John as an ugly industrial city, having only seen the pulp mills and oil refineries scattered around the town from the highway, only stopping when we got to the exurban hellscape that was Rothesay in the 1990's and early 2000's. I didn't actually get to see the downtown and its beauty until I visited under my "own power", and actually stopped by.. and that was a surprise. My opinion of the city shot up probably around 10x. Rothesay has really improved itself recently, too, though its still quite suburban. I'm amazed there isn't more demand for people to live in the downtown, the architecture is so great, especially when compared to the rest of the city which is so industrial. Its by far the prettiest part of the city, despite it being quite run down.

/\ ok, I'll help out.

From JennChan on Flickr:

And a different take for now, how about coming into Victoria.. Here's a few views as you come over the Malahat (352 meters elevation - about 25 minutes from the city) from the north of the island.

Pic from warpfactorenterprises on Flickr

From dbsteers on Flickr looking at Brentwood Bay, which is just north of Victoria, on the way to the airport.

similar view without the clouds and you can see Mt. Baker and the American San Juan islands from photosbydave on Flickr

and last one from Janis Morrison on Flickr

I love Victoria. Such a beautiful city, and it gets about 66% less rain than Vancouver.

Here is a nice photo of the recently renovated and expanded TD building in Halifax:

The shot was taken from the Nova Centre, the buildings under construction in this photo I've posted previously:
