Wow, the stuff of dreams (?). But precisely why Vancouver; because it already shows it can turn a profit (plus meet all the other national criteria)?
How much summer infrastructure would we need to build, and can the city turn a profit a second time, is there enough $$$$ for this "the author mentioned a place"that could afford it).
Vitally: Will the profits gained cover the cost of building needed essential infrastructure?
And precisely whose idea is this? That of writer Jonathan L. Fischer? Or more probably that of sports economist Andrew Zimbalist?

At any rate it's an accolade for Vancouver, nonpareil. Just hope it pays for itself, and that there's no imported terror-related issue, being realistic.

I think it's a great idea, and could actually prove to be very feasible and successful. As the article said we have the right conditions for it, I think it should at least be researched more.

For the Olympics to work, a city needs adequate space, funding, infrastructure, and adequate space and funding to build the infrastructure. Currently, we have none of those. Just because we (barely) pulled off one Winter Games doesn't mean we're ready for the Winter and Summer Games every two years.

More like nightmare for those of us who actually work (a decreasing demographic it seems)

plus the olympics in vancouver was sort of crappy. the entire first week felt dead and off, that cauldron thing was surrounded by ugly chainlink fencing, there were cinder blocks and super-save temp fencing everywhere else. sure, it saved money, but you came away with the impression either that they were holding the games together with scotch tape, or that canadians consider such things to be appropriate - both terribly embarrassing. came alive in the second week, maybe because the canadians started winning medals, but the point is that i don't see how vancouver's experience is evidence that it should be doing the olympics again and again. maybe it didn't bankrupt the city, but it wasn't a giant success either.

that said, if you all up there get a new metro line for every olympics, you should jump on board with this olympics idea.

If that were the case, then by all means! Unfortunately, the novelty (and by extension, the funding from the Province and Feds) would probably dry up after the first three sets of Games.

Agreed. A new metro line for every game would be about the best thing regarding such Olympics in the city. Otherwise,
I think it would become an albatross around the city's neck, rather than an asset.
