Amazing Pittsburgh

So, I havent posted a photo thread in about half a year. I just got back from a week and a half in Pgh thanks to Glowrock and am moving out there soon. Here are some of the photos I took of this most amazing city.

These photos are just from my first 2 or three days there. I didnt realize how many photos I have. I would post them all on here but it would be like 300 photos when its all said and done. So, Ill probably make 3 threads.

What a great city! So PhotoLith, we're dying to know-- did Pittsburgh win your heart over St. Louis?

I dont know, it may have. Although both cities are very very similar architecturally and economically speaking, with huge bombed out areas and very nice old row home neighborhoods. There were many similar aspects, but Pittsburgh has tons of amazing vantage points and the way the city is built on hills is simply fascinating. Ive been to so many kick ass cities though, so its a tough call. Id say my three most favorite cities at this point in time are St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and New Orleans.

Yes, I still have yet to visit Philly, have hardly been to NYC, never been to Boston, etc. I have a lot of exploring to do on the east coast.

you can definitely see hints of where st. louis took a lot of its architectural cues in the mid-atlantic, whereas chicago feels like it took some cues from new england. makes sense i guess, the first rail line to st. louis from the east i think ended in baltimore.

I think it's more a case of St. Louis being on the river. Travelers from both Philly, and Baltimore either ended up in Pittsburgh, or Wheeling, with folks continuing down the river to Cincy, Louisville, and then either up to St. Louis, or down to New Orleans. The Philly influence is felt all along the rivers.

Fantastic thread by the way. I love the lack of touristy stuff. You got to the real nitty gritty!!!

You've got balls to be fooling around on DeRaud St. This is the most Cincy looking street in Pittsburgh. Too bad it's falling apart.

Lith, you killed it. This is one of the most Pittsburgh-y threads i've ever seen. Your tour guides must be quite knowledgable plus you got serious skill. Amazing stuff. Like others said, not touristy. You really captured the weird nooks that make it feel special when you see them yourself in person. Excellent conveyance of the city's "soul".

My first thoughts are, Pittsburgh really looks like a blend of Cincinnati and St. Louis. Is it fair to consider it a Midwestern city?

Thanks for the eye-opener, Photolith!

Where is that? Looks like possibly the Hill? What an urban gem that could be with some fixing.
