Nondescript Midtown office building converted to beautiful townhomes/lofts, excellent outdoor spaces facing the skyline.

New renderings of The Metropolitan which will be a 330-unit complex spanning 2.5 blocks and linking two rapidly developing neighborhoods. The rear faces an interstate. The site is located here: http://goo.gl/maps/0V4uz

This will be a really dramatic project that links two important neighborhoods.

Photos courtesty OKCTalk.

4.6 mile streetcar route approved by council today. Estimated cost $100-110 million, already fully funded and set to open in 2017.

heyerdahl,

Out of curiosity, what agency is funding this and who will run it? The local transit agency? I hadn't even heard about this project.

The construction is funded by MAPS 3, which is a special package funded by a 7-year one-penny sales tax. The MAPS model has been used in OKC for quality of life & economic development projects as well as public school reconstruction since 1993.

With MAPS, capital projects are paid for in cash after the money has been collected, so there is never any public debt and the collected money accrues interest until payments are made. This is how you get a city of economic conservatives to vote to tax themselves for government spending on urban infrastructure.

The streetcar will be operated out of the general fund, but it is looking likely that adjacent property owners will form a BID to pay for part of the maintenance and operations costs.

This isn't in the city of Oklahoma City, but it's in the Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond.

I don't think The Steelyard is officially under construction. I may be wrong though. I know they're doing site cleanup for the soil and so on. Either way, it's going to be built unless some sort of economic crash happens within the next 6 months to a year.

I'm thinking that the actual start of construction will be sometime after June 2014.

Anyone know the status of the MAPS park, convention center, and Crosstown Blvd?

Also, are they tearing down the Cox Convention Center, and if so, what are they planning?

Add another 400 units! The two Shartel projects look like they will be nice.
