West of Midtown, Howell Mill Road’s evolution has taken a significant step forward.
Veteran Atlanta developers Allen Morris Company have officially closed on the 1.7 acre property at the corner of 11th Street and Howell Mill—currently a scrapyard—where they plan to build a tiered, 14-story tower called Star Metals Offices. Plans for the rooftop bar, garden, and restaurant, with views from downtown to Buckhead.
The company paid $8.5 million for the site, where demolition is expected to start later this year, according to a press release. It’s been nearly two years since Allen Morris first floated initial renderings for the project.
The class A office tower is expected to open in 2020, offering 185,000 square feet for workers and a glassy rooftop restaurant and bar that promises panoramic views from downtown to Buckhead.
At the ground level, expect 30,000 square feet of high-ceilinged retail that will serve as the shopping and dining component for the broader Star Metals Atlanta project.
The other major piece is a 409-unit residential building across the street, which will border Atlanta blues institution Northside Tavern. (We’ve asked the developer for construction updates on the residential component and will post additional information that comes).
Office amenities will include “lushly landscaped outdoor terraces, multiple tenant collaboration areas, and bike rack/ shower facilities,” per the release.
W. Allen Morris, company chairman and CEO, said he’s confident the project “will be a truly innovative and transformative development for Atlanta and for West Midtown.”
