Does anyone have a high-resolution (or at least legible) scan of this building's vertical blueprint? If there's another way to see how high above street level each section of the building is, that would work too.

Woolworth Building penthouse hits market for record $110M

"Castle in the sky" will take up top nine stories of city landmark

Quote:
The penthouse in the Woolworth building hit the market for a whopping $110 million, Bloomberg News is reporting.

The $110 million price tag for the apartment at the top of the 58-story tower is the highest ask ever for an apartment in downtown Manhattan.
“The price is more reflective of the unique historical nature of the property” than its location or the heated luxury market, Jonathan Miller, president of appraiser Miller Samuel Inc. told Bloomberg. “We’ve seen rapid absorption downtown, but this project is unlike anything that’s come online.”

Sales are expected to begin at the iconic building this fall with a move in date of 2016. The Woolworth Tower was designated a historical landmark in 1966. Developer Alchemy Properties has called the penthouse a “castle in the sky.”

I love almost all of the Gothic revival, neo-classical, and art deco skyscrapers/highrises. Woolworth is one of my favourites. So are 40 Wall Street, Marshall Courthouse, and 80 Pine Street. To name a few in NY.

More Looks, Details Revealed For Woolworth Building Condos

Quote:
The highly anticipated Woolworth Building condos still aren't on the open market, but the full website has launched for the Alchemy Properties development, revealing a few more renderings and details. The website, much like the teaser site, focuses heavily on the building's history, incorporating historic photos alongside renderings of the 34 new homes, which will start at $3.875 million, with the pinnacle, a mind-boggling seven-level penthouse, asking a record $110 million. The website details the interior design for the kitchens and bathrooms, and shows what the terraces on the 29th floor will look like. And it seems like this may be all of the information that the website shares; the marketing team said that the listings will not go live on the site. Anyone interested in an availability list can make an appointment at the sales gallery.

I think this photo says so much about New York and its skyscrapers. The Woolworth Building (over a hundred years old) was once the world's tallest building.

It's a landmark, and a great skyscraper design. But the city moves on. There are some people who would prefer it if New York was "done". But a great and thriving city is never "done".

I hope one day they will reconstruct the original turrets that were replaced by the postmodernist Disney towers.

Away from the wives, bring out the cigars and whiskies and sherries/port.

And I would sell my left kidney (my right one too) for one of those Woolworth bldg. condos.

What other picture could scream "Greatest city in the World" back in the day when this shot was taken? Was there ever any doubt as to the alpha-one status of NYC, back then?

I wish it was also still in vogue to utilize the slender spires as flagpoles. I don't think you can have enough stars and stripes up there.

At that time, it was pretty much the only place on earth where the race to the sky had that kind of skyscraper construction going on. Now it's worldwide. Meanwhile, the city has returned to a similar type building frenzy, it's just no longer for a title of "world's tallest". Having held that title for so long, it's not something that would alter or change the city's status as it will for so many other places we see taking shape today.

But yes, for one glorious moment in time, the Woolworth Building was the tallest building on earth in the only city that was reaching for that title.

Apartments have arrived on the market.

Ah, perfect! I think I will purchase the 1 bedroom for $4,575,000. Not a bad deal. I need it so I can store all my binders full of woman and my mini tree which I have in a pot (from Michigan too because the trees are all the right height, and are perfect from there). Just like this tower, and my tree, all is perfect in this majestic city. I also have a portrait of Jesus (Garry Barnett) for which I pray 5 times a day on a rug, and face North towards the future Nordstrom site.

You can also call "(212) 755-5544" to have apartment viewings.

Paris? They even had a much taller structure back then, lol.

A city's influence and status in the world isn't defined by their tall buildings anyway.
