Another example of a street light pole that is both purposeful and decorative. The decorative motif may go in and out of style with its environs - but it sets a hard-to-ignore "standard" nonetheless.

The street sign shape does not seem to fit within the various categories discussed on NLA or by the Angelino Militant, i.e., not plank, paddle, trapeziod, blade, shotgun nor pistol. With WigWag in mind, could it be a sowbelly? Or inverted humpback?

Interesting shiny cube-shaped ornamentation along the roof line and elsewhere on featured bungalow. It seems repeated on one or more nearby structures too. At first blush, it resembled something akin to holiday lighting. Gilt glass, polished copper, paint?

JD, last night while I was researching for my post I found this very interesting photograph.

It shows a 29 year old Pat Collins with Sharon Tate and Philippe Forquet. [ca.1964]

I thought Ms. Collins and her friends were probably at the Celebrity Club, until I noticed the table lamp clearly says Interlude.

As a reminder, here's The Interlude and The Crescendo on the Sunset Strip.

we've seen this photograph previously on NLA

As for that dashing couple with 'The Hip Hypnotist'.

Sharon Tate & Philippe Forquet.

http://simply-sharon-tate.tumblr.com...ilippe-forquet

I didn't know who Mr. Forquet was so I had to do a 'google' or two.

"Philippe Forquet Viscount de Dorne born September 27, 1940 in Paris, France, is an actor and the son of a wealthy aristocrat, Marcius Forquet Viscount de Dorne.
Philippe Forquet made his film debut in 1960 in La Menace while still an art student and over the next few years became popular in France. Highly regarded for his appearance he was expected to make a successful transition into American films, after appearing opposite Jean Seberg, In the French Style (1963). Filmed in France, the film told of an American student (Seberg) who falls in love with an aristocrat (Forquet) while visiting France. It proved popular with both European and American audiences and Forquet travelled to Hollywood to work for 20th Century Fox. He was touted as the handsomest new actor in Hollywood, a cross between Montgomery Clift and Louis Jourdan.

He co-starred with Sandra Dee in Take Her, She's Mine as her romantic interest, and while the film was popular, it did not lead to other projects. During this time Forquet became engaged to the American actress Sharon Tate, however the relationship ended because of career conflicts. He went to New York City where he studied drama at The Actor's Studio.

In 1969 he co starred in the film Camille 2000, which has become a cult classic still selling on the Internet today. It was a remake of the famous Alexander Dumas story, The Lady of the Camillas. He returned to France where he continued acting in television throughout the 1970s, also returning the United States to film The Young Rebels in 1970-71.

Forquet was married to the American fashion model and actress Linda Morand, from 1970 until their divorce in 1976. He now lives in the town of Saint-Quentin, France where he took over his father's estate and the family business. He is re-married and has three children."

As a side note:
The photograph with Pat Collins at The Interlude was taken five years before Sharon Tate's grisly murder at the hands of the Manson 'family'.

Thanks for sharing your memories of Welch's yesterday, CityBoyDoug.

Another "then and now" Julius Shulman post today. This is "Job 2249: Roxbury Parking Garage (Beverly Hills, Calif.), 1956".

Getty Research Institute

The 1956 CD's listing for Bache & Co at 445 N Roxbury Drive confirmed the garage's location as 441 N Roxbury Drive. The façade has been changed, but the wall on the left matches the photo from 60 years ago.

RE: Pat Gresham, I found her obituary. There was a picture of her too, but I cannot post pictures. She was born in 1930 and died in 2014.

Patsy R. "Gresham" Nuckols

obituary Patsy Nuckols

Pat was in the movie, Story on Page One and provided the music to the Del Mar Horse Shows. Pat attended San Dieguito High School '49 and received a Theater degree at Oceanside/ Carlsbad/Mira Costa JC. Pat was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Gresham; father, Marshall Gresham, and brother, Marshall Gresham "Bud," and her husband, Marine Major William "Bill" Nuckols. 'mystery' location

J. Howard's Horticultural Establishment, Los Angeles Calif.*

eBay

Actually, it's the Paul J. Howard's Horticulture Establishment (Paul is cut off in the tourist snapshot)

This 1930 booklette gives the address as 250 S. La Brea Ave.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1930-Flowerl...-/380878683395

the address is in the inside cover

And yet this ad/pamphlet gives the address as 11700 National boulevard.

With the two different addresses, I'm not sure where the fine looking building in the snapshot was located.

Here's a closer look at the 'mystery' building.

*I just realized Godzilla posted a whole series of photographs showing Flowerland (but the building in the faded tourist snapshot doesn't appear in any of them)

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=24583

GW posted this:

"At Barrington and National was Paul J. Howard's Flowerland Nursery. It was a huge and beautiful nursery.
Mr. Howard had moved his nursery from 3rd and La Brea to this location as he felt there was a great future here in the outskirts of Los Angeles....

'Colonial Corners' was the name given to the intersection of National and Barrington when Howard's Nursery started in 1940."

So I think it's safe to say, my 'mystery' building was probably located at the earlier address, 250 S. La Brea Avenue.

This must be from the same general time frame as this photo posted by Flyingwedge showing the old and the new:

Is the Dorothy Chandler still somewhat tacky inside, or has it been remodeled?

https://musiccenterblog.com/tag/the-...dler-pavilion/

Did it really have green carpeting on the mezzanine level? (it calls to mind a putting green)

I was at the Dorothy Chandler a few years ago and my memory is that the interior looks pretty much the same as the above pictures. But the carpet that runs up the stairs to the mezzanine level is more of an olive green.

Mystery Building

This building looks vaguely familiar, but I can't place it. The photo is from the C.C. Pierce Collection at UCLA, so there's
a good chance the building is in LA.

Does anyone recognize it? The photo looks to have been taken around 1920.

Here's how it looked in 1984, with a camera shop in the corner space.

I'm embarrassed to say I had an office in that building for five years and didn't recognize it in the original photo! In my defense I'll say the photos give the building a much flatter and squattier appearance than it has in real life.
