I just ordered a Nikon D40. I've been unsure whether I should by a SLR at all, I'm very satisfied with my Panasonic Lumix FZ5, and I like the handy size. But now the D40 was on sale, really cheap, so I thought why not.

Nikon D80 and a Nikon D300 with two bags worth of lenses. I can't even remember off the top of my head what we have. But the two bodies are what get the grunt work done for me and my wife.

Well I did get the Nikon D60 for Christmas and I love it. I have to get out and about to take some shots now. I still only have the kit lens, but I am looking at getting a 55-200 in the future

Pretty good lens, make sure it's VR though!!! If you plan on doing more close in, go ahead and invest in a 10mm wide angle that way you can get from sidewalk to tip top while standing at the base of the building!!!

Also, get yourself a speedlight!!

With cell phones and iphones and every phone taking pictures, the compacts just aren't as sexy as they used to be and I think people are now realizing the limitations of compact cameras. They'll always kick SLR's ass in sales, but the SLRs are looking really cool right now. I 'm betting there's going to be a trend back to the heavier but more substantial cameras. With so many people taking photos everywhere, they're not so embarrassing to carry around anymore, as long as you can still hold it in one hand.

Kinda like a bridge between the SLRs and your standard point-and-shoot cameras. Still a buttload of bells and whistles that I've yet to figure out.

For Christmas, the Panasonic Lumix G1, which is a new Micro Four Thirds (mirrorless interchangeable lens) system with excellent live view & a so-so electronic viewfinder.

Size was the primary consideration, for street photos especially, when I don't want to be lugging a lot of gear - somewhat smaller than the Olympus e-420, which to my knowledge is the smallest DSLR out there, and also better performance in most all conditions.

Biggest drawback is the current paucity of lenses for the standard - though with Leica, Olympus & Panny all on board, that should be changing soon...

Still have three weeks to exchange; meanwhile, I'm having fun with the trial.

Still using my Canon 10D I've had for 5.5 years now. It still works wonderfully well, though my camera envy for the newer models is growing. I've started socking a little away each week, and in the fall I'll decide if I want a 40D or spend a little more for a 50D.

Lenses: 17-40L, 28-135 IS, 50/1.8, 28/2.8, Sigma 20/1.8

Thought you'd all get a kick out of this setup I saw at the zoo in Waikiki (Honolulu):

My partner saw me eyeing it and said "don't even THINK of lugging around something like that in my presence!"

I just upgraded to a Canon Rebel XS from my point and shoot. I LOVE it so far and im only using the factory lens. Im trying to decide what lens to buy next but im just don't know nearly as much as I thought I did about it. Any suggestions? what's a good primary lens to have?

I had it + a raynox wide angle with a Lensmate adaptor and kept it 6 months, and 3 months ago I change to the SX10 because of its wide angle integrated and its x20 zoom.

I saw a bunch of bird watchers lugging around lenses like that last summer. It would be pretty neat to go up on the roof of a skyscraper and shoot with one of those.

Looks like a 600mm f/4.0L IS. I see them at some of the events I cover, and feel embarrassed by my little 55-200mm.

That's exactly what I think when I see people with big lenses!

I guess size really does matter....
