What hints?

Because that quote from Niwell could have also implied a huge American retail tenant for the Cumberland Terrace redevelopment.

The suspense is too much and well, counterproductive for me!

It looks like 88 Scott has been pushed to 202 metres (including mechanical):

Well that's good news.
This building will help push the skyline eastwards.
This should make it to over 30 buildings built/proposed/under-construction over 200m in Toronto.

Hong Kong has less than 50 towers over 200 meters, and new York has more than 60 I believe. Not sure about Dubai, but I think we are going to be in top 5 worldwide. (200 meters or greater)

I believe Dubai has more than 60 buildings 200m or greater. But significantly, a lot are over 300m there. This is the height Toronto needs to be building in if it wants to maintain its place as one of the leading skyscraper cities in the world.

According to Emporis built >200m - We should bump about to about sixth position.

NYC - 53
Hong Kong - 48
Dubai - 44
Shanghai - 43
Chicago - 27
Tokyo - 20
Houston - 14
Panama City - 12
Singapore - 12
Toronto - 11 (14 in sales or u/c so we may surpass Tokyo, we should hit 25 in the next 3-4 years.)
Seoul - 11

Emporis is missing a ton of cities. To roof height as of 3 months ago, it was something like this:

01. Dubai (63) - 636 m
02. Hong Kong (61) - 484 m
03. New York (53) -381 m
04. Shanghai (46) - 487 m
05. Chicago (27) - 442 m

06. Shenzhen (27) - 325 m
07. Tokyo (21) - 296 m
08. Singapore (18) - 280 m
09. Guangzhou (16) - 441 m
10. Houston (14) - 305 m

11. Chongqing (14) - 283 m
12. Nanjing (13) - 317 m
13. Busan (13) - 301 m
14. Seoul (13) - 284 m
15. Kuala Lumpur (12) - 379 m

16. Bangkok (12) - 304 m
17. Los Angeles (11) - 310 m
18. Jakarta (11) - 262 m
19. Toronto (10) - 298 m
20. Atlanta (9) - 285 m

Bangkok, Seoul, Manila, and a whole whack of other cities are building lots of 200 m+ buildings as well. It's not as if these other cities are all standing still. Toronto will climb up the rankings, but would be lucky to squeak into the top 10. 6th spot isn't realistic.

If 88 Scott looks like that rendering it will be one sharp looking building.

I'm not so sure about that.

If we include the CN Tower, we've got 17 towers already built or under construction.

If we include Massey Tower, Eau du Soleil, Richmond-Adelaide III, Bazis' Yonge & Eglinton tower, and the height increase of 88 Scott, we have another 12 proposed.

If we add another two for 60 Harbour Street, plus the two soon-to-be announced towers that LeftCoaster has been referring to in lieu of a supertall, we will have a total of 33 towers over 200 metres built, u/c or proposed.

If somehow our real estate market manages not to implode over the next 5 years, we could take a legitimate run at Chicago and the Top 5.

Toronto's doing exceedingly well, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. I definitely think we'll catch Chicago, it's some of the other cities ahead of us that might stay ahead. Dubai, Hong Kong, New York, and Shanghai will remain the top 4. Tokyo, Guangzhou, Bangkok, Seoul, Shenzhen, Singapore, Panama City? Just like Toronto, all of these cities will likely be beyond 30 200m+ buildings by 2015.

Toronto might be in 5th, but we could easily be in 11th or 12th. Exciting times, nonetheless.

Indeed, and who knows how things might turn out even 20 years from now. Toronto seems to grow in massive spurts.

2 dark horses that few people seem to be noticing are Abu Dhabi and Mumbai. Abu Dhabi seems to be following in Dubai's path, albeit with better fiscal controls. Mumbai has 13 super talls currently under construction.

Mumbai, what a sick joke! Millions of people living in slums in abject poverty and their countrymen concern themselves with constructing monuments to wealth.
